JM's Top Twenty-Five, Week Ending November 23rd, 2008
1 – Alabama (11-0)
The perch isn't too secure, with Auburn and Florida to come.
2 – Texas (10-1)
Still have to give 'em the edge, as they beat the Sooners at a neutral site rather than at home.
3 – Oklahoma (10-1)
Despite that shellacking, I still wager TTU might have won if it had been in Lubbock, where they're essentially invincible this year.
4 – Florida (10-1)
The Ole Miss loss looks less and less embarrassing every week.
5 – Utah (12-0)
They took care of business. They belong. Match 'em up with the Big East winner and give 'em a chance to go 13-0, I say.
6 – Texas Tech (10-1)
Wow. What a fall from grace.
7 – Southern California (9-1)
And I still think Notre Dame has a chance.
8 – Boise State (11-0)
They took care of business ... but they probably don't belong, not in the year of the Big 12. On the other hand, they could sneak in if the Big East winner has three losses. Fresno State could still end all the speculation, though.
9 – Penn State (11-1)
Iowa's playing better, which makes the Lions look more respectable for having lost to them. See Florida above.
10 – Georgia (9-2)
Yep ... now the best two-loss team in the country.
11 – Oklahoma State (9-2)
By the slightest of margins over these guys.
12 – Missouri (9-2)
Head-to-head gives the Cowboys the edge over Mizzou.
13 – Ohio State (10-2)
Their postseason should be about proving they can beat someone of consequence.
14 – Ball State (11-0)
BCS is evidently an initialism for Ball Can't Show
15 – Texas Christian (10-2)
Now a 35-10 loss to Oklahoma in Norman looks like a squeaker, doesn't it?
16 – Cincinnati (9-2)
Their first-ever victory over Pittsburgh probably wins them the Big East.
17 – Oregon State (8-3)
It's all there for Oregon State: Can they actually grab it?
18 – Brigham Young (10-2)
We're only noticing now that their highest quality win is ... Air Force? Talk about fooling everyone.
19 – Georgia Tech (8-3)
This game with Georgia should be for a BCS bid.
20 – Boston College (8-3)
Three ACC teams drop out, and three enter. No surprises here.
21 – Florida State (8-3)
Bowden's still within striking distance of JoePa.
22 – West Virginia (7-3)
You don't know how it pains me to see them re-enter the top 25. On a related noted, evidently WVU Coach Bill Stewart took the time to give RU quarterback Mike Teel some encouraging words in the midst of Rutgers' horrendous 1-5 start. He's a class act, and a good man.
23 – Oregon (8-3)
It's all there for Oregon: Those winter nights will be a lot warmer if they're wearin' a beaver pelt.
24 – Michigan State (9-3)
In both their chances to make a statement, they did. It reads: "We're not nearly so good as our record indicates."
25 – Ole Miss (7-4)
No one else with four losses has a trophy like UF in their case. It certainly makes theirs.
