Excellent ancient, wow if you got the nacelles sises right it is huge compare to original Enterprise. I think most guys are going to have inferiority complex when they see the movie in Mai(not me of course). On the serious note its too big in my opinion.

^^ How about Roseanne Barr? :p

Actually, I see the original ship as more of a Lauren Bacall - classic and defined, rather than smooth and curved. The new one - more of Angela Lansbury, circa Murder, She Wrote ;).

Well said, Ptrope!

And for those Craig Ferguson fans (all three of em) out there I ask the question: 'Has there been a murder!?!?' and I answer, yes, and the Enterprise was the victim.

Ancient, excellent work as always. I still remember when you did your first cross sections of the ole TOS E on here and I must say I see a lot of growth in your artistic abilities. I believe you've done a good job capturing the new ship. Which makes me realize also just how reinforced the neck is compared to the original. That new thing practically has double chins!

:rommie:

Ok, I finished the top view. Now we can compare the two ships pretty well:

Thanks. Yes, the new ship has a few wrinkles, that's for sure.

Eh, I could get used to it. Is it just me or does anyone else wish that the violet overlap parts of the drawings were closer to the ship's actual shape?

I have a feeling that the TMP ship might be closer to this ship when viewed from above. It had the bigger saucer and pushed back nacelle combo this new ship is sporting.

I think the ship will look better in 3-D than it does in ortho drawings. Not that it looks bad in ortho, but most ships tend to look a little wonky in diagram form.

Very nice.
Thingies? LOL.

Your top view is nice, too. One thing I wondered about the new design, the "upside-down arch" look to the pylon struts...could that offer more strength in the design, as far as mass/stress/loading/etc...(well the arch would support vertically, not in a horizontal plane...ohwell). nevermind.

Great work.

I for one LOVE big thingies, especially if there are two of them.

Regardless, I'm loving the the orthos you guys are coming up with. I'm totally sold on the reimagined Enterprise.

By the way, I showed my wife of 16 years the impressive side-by-sides you all have come up with. She's been staring at the same ship we all have for 40+ years, and her reaction was "I like the new one better. It looks like a muscle car compared to the original. The old one looks... wimpy."

There ya go. :p

There doesn't seem to be much variation among less, uh, intense fans (and/or long-suffering signficant others) about the new design; they're not stressing.
