Um, no. Pulaski was the McCoy knock-off, which is one of the reasons I prefer Crusher.
Okay, it's all of the reasons.
I agree with the poster above who said that as the years passed, his attitude toward Pulaski has softened, mine has too. But Crusher was an original character that just worked better, and I'll always like her more.
Count me in with those who preferred Pulaski.

I enjoyed every moment of Muldaur's run on TNG. I much prefer Pulaski over the bland Crusher.

Pulaski had similarities to McCoy, as in Data to Spock, but key differences also. I don't see McCoy becoming pals with Worf based on a kindred warrior spirit. McCoy would have challenged Worf, but if they became friends it would be much different.
There is a bit of Trivia hear also, I really did like Dr Pulaski, however I thought that Dr Crusher was more up to date reguarding recent Star Fleet medical protocal. Not withstanding that Westley was her son, I have to give my vote to Dr Crusher.
The Trivia is that Diana Muldaur was also on TOS episodes, "Is there in Truth no Beauty" and she was also in "Return to Tomorrow" I think that she is the only actor besides DeForest Kelly to appear in both TOS and TNG...

I fully agree with what you are saying. Sure, Pulaski had a few similar attitudes to Bones but her character was different enough to qualify as intresting and make her behave in ways that McCoy would not have.
What I loved about her character was her critical attitude. In this regard she was very different to the rest of the crew. It was fun watching her being ironic and sarcastic with Picard, something no one else ever was in a credible way. She lacked this need for harmony with everyone that all the characters on TNG seemed to have. This offered the possibility for real progression in her relationships, because she actually had to develop trust with others.
Crusher on the other hand, has to be one of the blandest Star Trek characters ever written. I can't remember a single episode or even a single scene in which she was really memorable. Which is unusal because the doctors tend to be strong and rather unique characters on the other shows. Even Enterprise managed better in this respect.
But I think the Pulaski character was doomed from the start. From what I have read, Muldauer wasn't exactly made to feel welcome on the set, as other actors and crew saw her as a reminder that McFadden had been fired from the show. Also I don't think She had planned to stay longer than what her contract said and I think she refused to be added to the permenant credits because of this.
My criticism of Pulaski, as a character, was that she was written as judgmental and intolerant, as evidenced by her behavior toward Data. (The fact that she warmed to Worf while only grudgingly accepting Data suggested speciesism as well, rather than the open-mindedness you'd expect of ST and TNG - not to mention that's not what you'd really want in your personal physician, or, for that matter, in a fellow member of the senior staff. Can you say, "Not a team player?") My criticism of Muldaur has nothing to do with her as an actress but the issue that TPTB reverted, once again, to a TOS actor. There are a lot of talented and qualified actors out there - but they chose one they'd used before. Sigh. Whatever issues season one had, they managed to make it worse in season two by bring her on.

Pulaski was the most realistic of the TNG cast, and I loved her.
