Why not just use the pilot design?

That is so beutiful. It pains me that we are being denied this work of art, and being given that piece of shit instead.

Wormhole, you have to be kidding us.

You don't think this...

... corrupts Jefferies' original design more than Church's?

:wtf:

Koerner's and Church's designs both change the secondary hull significantly. Church's saucer is actually closer to the TOS/TMP version than Koerner's, and their nacelles are quite similar, right down to the Bussard foreskin.

It's got *some* grace and "beauty" to it. But it's not the Enterprise.
Ask some people on the street and I bet the majority will tell you that it is the Enterprise.

Show the people on the street a frisbiee with two paper-towel tubes tied to it and they'll call it the Enterprise.

I don't care what the people on the street think.

Because the "people on the street" wouldn't be caught dead going to see a Star Trek movie. Appealing to them is a wasted effort.

It appeals to me, too, and I'm as big of a classic geek as you are.

Yeah, and the TOS hardcore purists would fill the theater seats.

That's not the pilot design. It's not even the second pilot design. It's the production version.

Who's going to see a Star Trek film that Star Trek fans don't like? And it doesn't have to be universally despised, just a significant portion of the fanbase screaming from the rooftops that this is not right. Even non-genre websites are pointing out problems with the timeline and how the hardcores are already going ballistic over this turkey.

This is going to be a disaster. Might win the opening weekend, but not much beyond that.

Here are a couple of renders I did awhile back making some modifications to Dennis Bailey's phoenix model. As for the Kroenerprise(sp?) there are things on it I prefer (mainly the secondary hull) and things on the new ship I like...wasn't thrilled with the first pic but looked good in the trailer! :)

One with glow, and one without comparing the 3 ships:

Just remembered I had uploaded a test vid awhile ago too:

You're judging it on 1960s model making a model filming techniques. Take the same basic design, run it past some talented CG artists with multi-million dollar budgets and the same design could've been awe inspring.

It could've had more details to it, more realistic lighting and texturing, etc, etc, etc.

Then you're ok with changing it...but not by a lot. At what percentage would the change the "too much"?

I don't care what the people on the street think.

That's the fundamental difference between the OP and the Paramount execs.

When in the hell have the Paramount execs had a fraking clue what they were doing with Star Trek? They've been mismanaging this property ever since Desilu got bought out.

Yeah. Because Desliu really knew what they were doing.

3 seasons?!?!? WATCH OUT!

The romantic attachment some people have with TOS baffles the hell out of me.

For a ship fresh out of spacedock, that would've been perfect (after all, by the time of "The Cage", the ship was at least five years old, so some minor modifications would be fine).

At three seasons, Star Trek was the only hit out of all the new shows of 1966.

And if they'd only started using demographics a year earlier, Star Trek never would've been bumped from that Monday night slot in favor of Laugh-In.

Jim is surprised by your remark.

Most Star Trek fans like this a lot so far.

"Most"?

I'm seeing enthusiasm starting to wane on this sucker, and a lot of us old codgers ready with the "I told you so"'s.
Most by far. Its really kinda sick how some of you are wringing your hands in evil glee, hoping for a flop. See the film before you judge it.

They've gone before so it couldn't hurt.
