Non Trekker/Trekkie reaction

I showed my brother the trailer and he likes it. But he already likes star trek so that is no surprise. So i showed my long time friend and she said its look good and wants to see it. And she has never liked star trek. I tried years to get her in it but never could. So that is a good sign to me. Im going to show more people so see how it goes with them.

Shown a few friends of mine the trailer, none of them are fans and the verdict amongst them is unanimous, they thought it was great and they want to go see the movie! YAY!

Well done, JJ and co.

I never thought I would see the day that I could say that.

I showed it two colleagues (no Trek-fans)... one was very interested and the other one found it very good.
My mother (who watched the show as a teenager in the 70s) smiled when the boy said 'James Tiberius Kirk'
My boyfriend... well he's not a Trek or action/scifi-movie fan...

I have had a look round some forums on the net and they all have a Star Trek thread in there somewhere. The response is mostly positive and there are lots of comments from non-fans and even those who have hated Trek in the past that they are very impressed by what they saw and are interested in seeing the movie.

So I would say so far so good, but we are a long way from mission accomplished!

They are all paid by Abrams and his minions, you know?

;)

Well they certainly have enough money from Paramount to do that!

In those same forums there are always the same group of people... the non-fans who say they enjoyed the trailer, the ones who say it just looks like mindless action, a Star Trek fan who is looking forward to it and a Star Trek fan who already hates it.

There are also JJ Abrams lovers and JJ Abrams haters, both of whom point out his track record as either being excellent or dreadful.

There are also some people who wont even view the trailer because they arent interested.

And finally, there are Simon Pegg fans!

I think there will be a more 'thoughtful' and 'cerebral' trailer coming out eventually to balance out the amount of action in the other trailer. We will have to wait and see.

I saw the trailer with Quantum of Solace, and I was surprised by how much groaning there was. It was a Sunday night showing however. (Friday night audiences are usually much more responsive.)

Its cute how people are trying to convince themselves that people love the trailer and want to see the movie.

Reminds me of Hulk fans.

My girlfriend, who prefers Stargate to Star Trek (weird, huh?) said "it's pretty bad" and that it reminded her of one of the spoofs from SG1 Episode 200, where all the cast are replaced with "young and sexy" versions of themselves. She also says that they even failed in that regard, as the new Spock has none of the sex appeal of Nimoy. I think it's the nose.

A person I spoke to today said he thought it was strange how Spock was all aggressive and in Kirks face and that everyone on the Enterprise looks like Teenagers. So I asked him if he might go see the movie and if he thinks he'd like it. But he said because it's JJ Abram he felt he is going to be disappointed because Abrams hypes everything he does and keeps everything a secret like "Lost" but never actually delivers on that hype. But he said that's what people usually go for these days in Hollywood.

That's a fair point except that the original Star Trek actors used to be young and sexy versions of themselves before they went, you know, old and not that sexy.

You know, your reflection in the mirror is not another person.

Must be great ignoring reality huh? Living in your own little shut in world where everyone thinks like you and nobody has an opinion.

Personally I see no problem with Spocks aggression. Nor do I think the crew look like teenagers. Yes obviously JJ hypes the fuck out of this film and everything he does. He's a business man. Also yes I think Lost sucks and goes on and on with more questions and less answers.

But where I come from, people can have more than one line of thinking and we can discuss and trade views and not piss our pants that somebody won't like a film that we will like. Gosh! You should try it ST-one.

I really enjoyed what I'd read on that football forum link that was posted.

Silly, since they have no evidence to support that, other than wishful thinking...but kind of cute.

:guffaw: :guffaw:

I showed my best friend the trailer a little while ago.

She stared at the screen in awe, and said, "You're taking me with you when you see that."

Did NOT expect that one. :P
