It is a rather funky cover and is Cliff Nielsen the same artist who did the vast majority of the Star Wars New Jedi Order front covers?

I'm not sure about his Star Wars work, but Cliff was the cover artist for the two Avatar books, Unity, the Titan novels, Burning Dreams, and Mere Mortals, among others.

Cliff did indeed do the covers for all of the New Jedi Order hardcovers, as well as the Jedi Apprentice YA series and some sporadic other books here and there. My favorite work of his is Diane Duane's Young Wizards series, however.
