The New Xbox Experience is here - your thoughts

The major console update is released tomorrow - I was wondering what you all were thinking about it.

Reviews have been pretty positive, so far:

While I think I could live without the Mii clones, I definitely agree with MS that the interface was in need of a major, major face lift and usability overhaul. The update is more than welcome in my book.

I could do without the Mii60's myself but I am looking forward to the update.

I could do without the Mii60's myself

I sold my 360s some time ago and I'm not on XBL anymore, but I did read about the avatar update thing and I'm like wow, rip off Wii much? Mii60i's is a very apt description.

One thing that I felt MSFT did very well was the online interface with the 360. (It's head and shoulders better than PSN) I'm not sure why they felt the need to change that.

Microsoft are adamant that were thinking about the Avatars with Rare long before we saw Mii's. They claim to have the documentation to prove it too.

The other thing I don't think I like is that the menu's seem "cartoony".
MS The Mi60's are one thing but I don NOT want a Wii looking menu.

Could be, but I was looking at article just this morning about the update and I was like, wow I'm looking at Miis. They looked pretty much EXACTLY like Miis in this one picture.

Like you guys, I just don't understand the Wii emulation. It may just be me, but I've always viewed the 360 as the adult system (with Wii for kids and PS2/PS3 for teens). Why 360 would tarnish that adult image...I just don't understand it. Of course, I guess they're looking at how well the Wii sells, but emulating their style isn't going to make the 360 sell more; people buy Wii because of its unique control system (something even the PS3 hasn't been able to ape).

I don't see why everyone's fixated on the Miis. You have to create one when you first sign in, and that's it--you never have to touch it again. And your old gamerpics will still work if you don't want to use the Mii ripoffs.

If the new dash fixes the painfully slow problems accessing lists of arcade games and other issues on the old dash, I'm all for it. The old dash was a bit long in the tooth graphically, and I'm looking forward to the new functionality (Netflix, multiplayer parties, expanded chat, installing games to HDD, etc.).

Looking forward to downloading it tomorrow when I get home.

One thing that every review has claimed is that the update is FAST. The interface transitions are apparently smooth as silk with no caching or laggy response whatsoever, which is nice.

Most of the shots I've seen of them give them a more "realistic" flare then the Miis.

And keep in mind.... Sony is doing the exact same thing, conceptually, with Home. Expect their avatars are completely realistic (and thus, harder to customize).

Now if they'd just ditch the purchase of Microsoft Points and let gamer points actually be worth something...

Isn't Home a mythical beast, you know, kind of like Bigfoot or the Loch Ness Monster? Everybody talks about it, but has anybody actually seen it?

Now see that's exactly how I feel about the Wii but if I were to say it my fan club would be getting in line to bash me. ;)

Edit to Add:
I just caught the PS2,PS3 comment myself and for the record I don't agree.
I was strictly referring to the Wii.

I missed the comment about PS3 being for teens. I'm not sure how TemporalFlux arrives at that conclusion seeing how most games are on both platforms. Sure Xbox360 has Gears as an exclusive, but PS3 has Resistance and the upcoming Killzone. Seems like comparable audiences to me.

Or said another way, what makes Xbox 360 more of an adult system?

EDIT TO ADD: Please don't take that as an attack TemporalFlux, just curious about why you felt that way.

Maybe he feels that way because that's the console he owns. You know, it doesn't get more adult than Fusion Frenzy and Viva Pinata.

Yeah, I'm excited about that. I really like the current interface, but the "lag" gets very old. Especially when I know exactly what I want, but it takes many steps to get there with each one delayed. I hope the new pop-up blade by pressing the Xbox button (which looks great) is that fast, too. If it is, that's a great addition.

So the word is this will be available at around midnight tonight? Anyone else hear that or know for sure?

It'll probably be available when Midnight falls in Redmond (PST), yes.
