Official Trailer Review & Comments Thread!! [Spoilers, of course]

Can't say this trailer did much to quelch my fears.

:(

Really? After the recent image releases I was wavering a bit, but the trailers' got be right back in the saddle. I'm loving what we see on it, It seems to have grasped the Star Trek universe fairly well from what we can see, and yet produced a film with mainstream appeal.

Moving so fast I almost couldn't get a screencap :)

That looks like a semi-completed Star Wars Death Star attached to six of those mothership saucers from V.

TGT

Can someone grab a shot of around 00:24 to 00:27. The rear plat on the corvette has a picture on it...

Also, it looks like the car chase was edited down a bit for the trailer. It starts with the car pulling a hard right, with the top up and no cop trailing... Then after the speedometer shot the top is down, and the cop is in chase...

Somethings I noticed since I have been able to dice and slice on my Apple here at home -

There is a scene where Spock is walking towards the camera with his mother, rocks in the background - Spock has three solid rank stripes of equal diameter. There is a later bridge scene where Kirk slaps Spock on the shoulder and Kirk has two thicker solid bands with a thin solid band in between. Scene later in the trailer shows Spock striking Kirk and having two solid bands.

The techno squeel of the Corvette I thought I heard was actually the hoverbike sirens.

License plate on the Vette is from Iowa, the rear license plate has the number plus a photo of the owner on it.

As Kirk sits on his bike and the camera pans upward to show the Enterprise being built, there are some floating reflections as if he is looking through glass, or this is a scene being shown on a monitor - Old Spock looking back in time?

The shuttle in the hanger on the left says NCC-1701 on the side under the engine.

Kirks black tunic has no departmental function on the delta.

When Enterprise come out of warp over Vulcan, on the viewer is a crap load of destroyed nacelles, ad saucer sections.

At !:17 close up of warp nacelle of Kelvin.

Explosion at 1:25 appears to take place in sickbay - xrays on wall give me a clue, plus medical cart.

At 1:30 there is an odd ship with what can only be described as a spinning warp nacelle behind it - like a propeller.

At 1:36 there is a scene with Nero being held by two Klingon guards - ridged foreheads ala TMP, not TNG.

at 1:41, big alien ship coming out of a Vortex

Kirk bedding down a green girl, slight forehead prosthesis.

That space station looks like an updated version of Franz Joseph's Starfleet Headquarters. If so, nice nod.

It does indeed. It has elements resembling the orbital engineers headquarters from ST:TMP as well.

The trailer demonstrates that the designers on this film paid a great deal of attention to previous Trek design - they simply chose to use some things and change others.

I think this movie is going to rock. It is worth seeing for the special effects and art direction alone. Given that everyone who has seen a part of the movie or read the script agree that the script is good, the only thing that can ruin the movie is the acting. Let's hope we get the holy trinity for this film: art (visual, sound), story and acting.

Errrm, look closer at the shot with Amanda, he has two solid bands there, too.

Noticed this too, but I assumed it was that thing vis effects people like to do where they put in lens flares and other 'photography flaws' to make it seem that what you're seeing was actually filmed, not added in on computer.

They're actually wearing masks, so it's not possible to tell what their ridges really look like - but the ridged masks, costumes (look at, for example, what Klaang wore in Broken Bow), background and weaponry makes me think Klingon.

Kirk bedding down a green girl, slight forehead prosthesis.

Can't say I see the prosthesis...

I don't know how the movie is going to be, but the trailer looks FRIGGIN' COOL. And don't forget - not everything in a trailer appears verbatim in a film. And let's not forget - it's a reboot folks. Its as if a new series called Star Trek, based on some older material, is starting in May. I hope it's successful.

Still trying to figure out what that ship is at 1:43

A ship with a spherical center

I dunno why but this ship is fascinating me for some reason. Do you think it's Starfleet? The design looks pretty different from what we're used to and what the other SF ships look like in the trailer. On the other hand it appears to be firing, and is it inside Nero's ship? I am just curious what function this plays in the movie.
