Trek has broken its own continuity before. The only reason people are freaking out about it now is because a) they're psycho fanboys or b) it's a prequel, so people feel like it needs to conform.

The more I see it, the more I love it. Now that I've seen the trailer, I think it's great. It's the perfect prequel to the movie Enterprise.

We got so much of the end of Kirk's life and career in the films. We got his mid-life crisis and retirement. I love the fact they seem to be filling in those holes and show just why Kirk and the E are so closely connected.

Yes, the Big E looks fantastic in the trailer: very graceful and curved without sacrificing the core 60's design.

OK the trailer has warmed me up a bit on the new Enterprise from my utter shock at the first picture. Still not 100% mind you but it does look better in motion than standing still. I'm am starting to realize why they are going with the more odd shapes...to give you more of a sense you're in the future.

Well, personally, I don't like it.

And not because it breaks canon or somesuch, mind you. It's just... its ugly. I see the potential of art-deco-ishness here, but to me, the proportions are all off. It's like this Enterprise has ran into a wall when backing up or something, and got its enginnering hull forcibly relocated forward relative to saucer and nacelles.

So, basically, to me, in itself, it's not pretty :)

That, and the nacelle pylons looking all upswept just looks stupid, and winds up putting the nacelles closer to each other than they should be.

THIS is the Batmobile:

...and yet, somehow, so is THIS:

Yet this isn't and never will be:

The new kitbashed ship looks like ass.

Oh god it gets worse....

I don't consider myself a hardcore uncompromising fan but there is only one word for that ship: abomination.
It looks like the ships parts were cobbled together each part from a diffrent trek period, it's a frankenstien.

I almost totally avoided this forum because it was just rumor until those photos came out, and the bridge of the ship looked like a parody of star trek rather than actual star trek, and so does this ship.

I don't mind messing with the almightly cannon a bit, story wise, were all experts here at finding clever ways to resolve cannon contradicions and plot holes...but I don't think they should have changed the actual physical designs of anything, I never thought they were gonna go that far.
ST isn't Bond or Batman where you can just plain restart whenever you want.
I figured they'd update the old 1701 to make it more modern like what they did in a mirror darkly, maybe subtle changes like more butons or make the screens actually functional...but this just does not have that star trek feel from what I've seen so far, it's lost it's magic, and it looks like one of those piss take parodies of star trek.

I'm not gonna go boycotting the movie, I'll give it a chance, but I'm 99% convinced based on what I've seen so far they've killed the franchise.
More and more I wish they'd stopped at First Contact instead of giving ST this slow painful death.

Was this change for it's own sake? What the hell was wrong with the previous deisign?
