for whats it worth I enjoyed it, I just would have also enjoyed it at Christmas, I did debate with myself if I should bother watching or not, my inner Doctor Who fan won over, and I watched it, but really its to short, it just felt like a massive tease and a spoiler for Christmas Day itself.

Even Corrie went to the trouble to produce a one off unique Children in Need event, and Doctor Who has done two wonderful mini episodes for CiN in the past, this just feels like a massive let down.

Even Corrie went to the trouble to produce a one off unique Children in Need event, and Doctor Who has done two wonderful mini episodes for CiN in the past, this just feels like a massive let down.

But the production was pressed for time and RTD was WAY behind writing for Doctor Who this last year, with 15 episodes to produce. So they probably couldn't fit it in to the schedule at all.

This is why fans shouldn't be given nice things: we start taking them for granted and complaining when they aren't always there. CiN sketches (and Christmas specials, for that matter) are a bonus, a sign of Doctor Who's popularity, not a God-given right.

Maybe it's me, but it's funny how hardly anyone bats an eyelid at the 10th Doctor's futuristic (for 1851) garb... it's as if everyone in Victorian times expects this sort of thing happening all the time.

I didnt at any point say they HAD to do something, notice the "or dont bother" part of my post. Yes mini episodes are nice, what we saw tonight was not a mini episode, more a "oh shit we have got to do something, lets totally spoil christmas for everyone"

That said I wasnt very impressed with the rest of the night either, Ashes to Ashses, couldnt even be bothered to move modern day cars when it filmed its segment.

You know, wamdue, given that you'd been whinging about how horrible and pointless this preview was since it was announced, one might think you would have, oh, not watched it. Let other fans enjoy it and let Children in Need benefit from the increased ratings and donations it will bring. That is the point of Children in Need: it's a telethon, not instant gratification for spoiled fans. The idea isn't really that you only donate if you feel personally blessed by the Doctor Who production team.

"The companion will do as the doctor says!"

Unsurprising. It's been widely reported that the Christmas Special is an adaptation of the story "The One Doctor."

If your giving to charity is based on them entertaining you with high quality specially productions then you have some very high standards of what charities qualify.

I don't think whinging is too strong of a term to be honest. Do you think the Doctor Who team demanded to have a slot on Children in Need only to give them a snippet of the Christmas special? No, it's more likely they were asked if they could contribute to the show, and gave them what they could to encourage viewers.
