Michael is sent on a business trip to Canada and brings Oscar and Andy along with him. Meanwhile, Jim counts down the days until Pam is done with art school.

Almost forgot this while watching Smallville

Sheesh. Andy calling Angela while drunk. LOL!! And back to "first base."

Ryan B.J. Novak is leaving

Exclusive: B.J. Novak Takes 'Office' Leave

Nov 12, 2008, 03:54 PM | by Michael Ausiello

Further proof the U.S. economy is in the crapper: It appears layoffs are looming at Dunder Mifflin.

Sources confirm to me exclusively that Office actor-writer B.J. Novak is taking a leave of absence from the show to appear in Quentin Tarantino's latest film, Inglourious Basterds. NBC declined to comment, but a Peacock insider says Novak asked producers for the time off and they obliged.

But exactly how much time off he'll be getting is subject to some debate. According to one insider, Novak will be MIA for "several episodes" but will return later this season. Another source, however, says Novak may be done with The Office for good, at least as a performer. "He may write more episodes," whispers my mole, "but as far as playing Ryan, I think he's ready to move on."

It's unclear how Novak's absence will be explained on screen, but making Ryan a victim of the current recession would be the logical way to go -- particularly if you-know-who returns to Scranton and decides she wants her old receptionist job back (hint, hint).

That raises the question: Would Pam's return to Dunder Mifflin cushion the blow of losing Ryan? And what if Novak is gone for good -- can The Office weather the loss? Comment away!

Oh please oh please let Ryan be gone for good, behind Toby he is the least interesting charecter on the show.

I'd be upset if Ryan's storyline this year seemed to be going anywhere or doing anything. As it is, he's essentially become a background player with only this week's episode really giving him much to do beyond sit at Pam's desk. I haven't watched any of the deleted scenes available online, has his stuff just been left on the cutting room floor or is he really just not around?

I never liked Ryan as a character and I'll be happy to see him go. Particularly after his new heights of douchebaggery in Season Four!

This has been my favorite episode of the season so far. It made me laugh out loud and kind of tore my soul out at points! All my favorite qualities in a TV show! Plus I watched it drunk, that probably helped my opinion of it. :p

I like that Micheal is shown being very competent in sales, it makes it more believable that the company would keep him on in spite of his many absurd and horrible misadventures. Also, I liked seeing the growth of his character as he chews out Wallace and then hangs up on him for transferring Holly. He seems more confident and like he's slowly figuring out what he wants in his life. But he hasn't lost his comedic buffoonery, which makes me happy. :)

Also, the Andy-Oscar stuff was pretty priceless. It's funny how far Andy has come as a character. I HATED him when he first came on the show. He was like Dwight without any likable qualities. And don't get me wrong, he's still socially retarded. But now he is definitely a sympathetic character IMO. And it's making me like Dwight less that he is causing her to cheat on him. Even if Andy and Angela are wrong, wrong, wrong together, the guy at least deserves some honesty. :p

Thumbs up.
