Ripper finally get made? BtVS's Giles gets a series?

I keep thinking that Ripper turned into Appiritions. :(

About a year ago, someone posted something that said that the BBC had confirmed they were going to make Ripper. I remember commenting at the time that I wouldn't trust the BBC to tell me the time (it was about 6 months after the endless Blue Peter/phone scandals). I remember someone telling me that it was the BBC, of course their word could be taken for what it was. Well, I'm still waiting.

ETA: /\ BTW, I've missed the Skutter. :)

Well no one has actually confirmed Ripper, besides Joss saying he still wants to do it, the Beeb still want to do it, etc. Which may as well be treated as internet rumour. And apparently Apperitions came from Judge John Deed, I mean... er Martin Shaw, telling someone he always wanted to play an exorcist, then the idea was picked up and developed, but it does seem to be a similar sort of show.

Yeah, it's good to have him back, now I'm gonna have to try and get him all christmas-y for next month.

and hopefully viewers would learn about his Ripper past as the series went along.
Well considering the last time anything was said about it it was going to be a one off, I don't think that'd be an option, unless they went on to series.
and I was hoping for a series way back when
I think at one point it was touted as a mini-series, with a chance to go on to series, but there's been so many rumours and "confirmations" it's hard to keep up.

Well, I've often thought I'd like to seem him in priestly robes. Somehow, I doubt the BBC's version of how that will ultimately pan out and mine are going to be slightly different, alas! :guffaw:

Is there any tinsel on the Dwarf?

If this does get made, I hope some Buffyverse people like SMG or David Boreanaz make some appearances. Because a whole series about Giles sounds like a snooze fest.

^
Yeah. You have to figure that they won't give it the go-ahead if they can't at least get SMG to sign on for the pilot or whatever.

Otherwise, I'm sure it'd be doomed for failure.

what? I dont know where either of the two of you live, but im sure the BBC could make a very good series just featuring Giles, without featuring anyone else from Buffy or Angel (which chances are is what would have happened)

I actually figure the show would have been like the last episode of Sea of Souls

I'm not disputing that.

The question is, could they sell it?
First off, it seemed the idea was never to start off as a series, it was a one off or mini at best, with the possibility of series if it worked well. Secondly, sell it to who? They would produce it and air it, so who would they need to sell it to?

could they sell it? well if it had come out after Buffy S7 ended, I would think theWB would have aired it

as a one off, and they still had Angel

oh I remeber now, Buffy moved to UPN, ok well then UPN would have had it.

Also, isn't Anthony Stewart getting kind of old? I'm not sure that he would want all the stress of being the main lead in a show.

He was the lead in The Invisibles just this year.

Hmm, I just noticed this on his official website
