Lit moments that made you cheer?

oh, i remember another. in ATFWATP when Albrik's watching the debate between Pelagro and Nan and Nan totally pwnz0rs Pelagro over resource allocation and her 'down-home' phrases. i fell in love with her right there and absolutely despised Pelagro...

The Good That Men Do
The fact that Trip is alive and wasn't killed off.
The book has alot of great moments in it.

I just finished The Sorrows of Empire. Yeah, that's on the list now. That's some damn fine work.

Sh'Yeah! That's because David Mack's writing rocks. I've been throughly impressed with the richness and depth of every outing so far. I can't wait until my reading queue puts me back in the neighborhood of Vanguard or when I can get finally get up to #23 with the SCE stories. I'm taking my time and biding it until Destiny, lest the antici....... pation kill me.

I couldn't even read that thread talking about "massive spoilers" or whatever for the Destiny trilogy because (at least in the beginning of the thread) everyone was being so negative and talking smack about a narrative which hasn't even been completed yet, and to my understanding is still in progress. And the Author frequents the board where said smack is oft being spoken. I just wanted to shout Shut Up You Guys! You're Going to Jinx it! You never disturb the artist at work, look what happened to Jack Torrance. (Although it doesn't look so bad from here... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gf7h6o3I8yw)

Any way, with no offense intended to the other amazing authors and editorial staff currently producing some of the best trek lit ever, Mack's trek writing is to tie-in media as the new BSG is to sci-fi shows. Thusly ends my gush.

Awwww....shucks. :)

Actually, if all goes as hoped, I am drafting the final scene of Book Three, Lost Souls, tonight. Then I will put the ms. down for a night to rest my brain, and start my read-through and polishing draft on Thursday night. Early next week, it will go off to several of my fellow authors as beta-readers, to ferret out mistakes, continuity errors, real-science gaffes, etc. Book One, Gods of Night, is now in copy editing, and I should be meeting with the editors to discuss edits and rewrites on Book Two, Mere Mortals, next week.

As if I listen to those nattering nabobs of negativism. Besides, it'll be fun to watch them all have to eat their words later this year. :)

You never disturb the artist at work, look what happened to Jack Torrance.
Ironic that you should have chosen that reference. My April Fool's gag this year was to set up my editor Marco a week ahead of time, begging him to look at the new direction I had chosen for the start of Book Three. On April 1, I sent him a 565-page, 165,000-word manuscript that read simply, "All work and no play makes Mack a dull boy."

He promptly replied via e-mail, "Best thing you've ever written."

Any way, with no offense intended to the other amazing authors and editorial staff currently producing some of the best trek lit ever, Mack's trek writing is to tie-in media as the new BSG is to sci-fi shows. Thusly ends my gush.
I am deeply honored by the comparison. Thank you!

And that awsomeness (is that even a word) moves over to his two on screen Trek credits and his Wolverine book Road of Bones. FYI he cowrote Starship Down, and cowrote the story for It's Only a Paper moon, which are two of my favorite DS9 eps.

Vulcan's Heart. :techman:

The whole thing, really, but especially these bits:

- Pretty much any scene with Ruanek. Is he cool, or what?

- When the Honor Blade (I love that name!) joins the battle at Narendra III and fights alongside the Enterprise-C. I love that one line that Captain Garrett had - something about "when we're through, the Romulan language will be spoken only in hell!"

The E-C sequence in that book is my favorite. It really gave me chills as I read it and qualifies as a "cheer" moment as well as a "I have something in my eye" moment. In a short span of pages I really felt like I knew Garrett and her crew and felt for them as they went toward their fate.

First of all how have I not read Crossover and Federation? I feel like I've let everyone down and for that I am truly sorry.

Secondly, just to put my 2 cents worth into the mix, I'd be hard pressed to name my favorite Trek author but certainly Keith R.A. DeCandido, David Mack (Wildfire was the first book to bring a tear to my eye, thank you) and Dayton Ward & Kevin Dilmore are certainly up there in the top five without a doubt. :bolian:

Thirdly I cant really pin point any one moment that made me cheer but there have certainly been some heartfelt "Come on!" (with a clenched fist) and "Yessss!" throughout the S.C.E. , Vanguard and Vulcan Soul series.

Toodle pip,

Section 31:the DS9 installment.
Bashir asks Vaughn if he is a member of 31 and Vaughn replies that he has beenfighting 31 longer than he(Bashir) has ben alive.
Also Vaughns appropriation of the holo-ship.
Is Vaughn one of the coolest characters around?

I do like that he cuts Bashir down to size. He's right - Bashir does have this tendency to think it's all about him, that he knows better than everyone else and he doesn't need to listen to them. I like that Vaughn bitchslaps some sense into him. He continues to do in later installments too, and it's always fun.

Taran'atar offing the Hirogen in Demons...

Prynne nearly offing Taran'atar in Warpath

These two of AS' and finding out what happened to all/some of the Jemmie Fleet that vanished in the WH- in Unity...

Oh, and maybe that thing with Taran'atar and the kids in Mission Gamma one... for a second, things looked up there... ;)

In addition to others mentioned:

Miras Vara becoming Astraea and reviving the Oralian Way.

Somebody offing Pasir in Terok Nor.

Macet defeating the parasite (and then the Cardassians getting to play cavalry-to-the-rescue for the Bajoran sector!). Taran'atar biting one to death.

^ You're right! And Quark's "didn't it just figure" reaction! Didn't he then try to bribe Taran'atar for his "protection?" :guffaw:

Probably so...but I haven't really followed the DS9 relaunch for a long time now for reasons I won't clutter this thread with (one personal, one a dislike for the way the Mirror Universe/Iliana Ghemor thing is being handled). That parasite arc, though, was amazing.

A few spring to mind because I just finished reading them...

Q&A: When Picard realises that all the Q-moments he's had to put up with were actually part of a bigger plan by Q - - and then the mention of tights.

Articles: When Nan Bacco rallies the Klingons against the Ambassador from the Romulus.

Maximum Warp
: When Folan helps Riker and stops chasing him.

I suspect there will be a few cheers towards the end of Lost Souls too ;)
