Titan Concept Design, WIP

PatrickIvan asked me to build a 3d model of a Titan design that he was working on from a while ago.

This is my first real attempt at a curvy TNG type organic style, so I wll have some issues I am sure.

Here are some sketches...

Again, PatrickIvan gets all the credit for this awesome design. :)

And here is what I have so far...

Comments?

I can see that. The bussard collectors would be more triangular. But since they're concaved (as you correctly have them), it must be a pain to place odd angles within that concave. Am I making sense?

There are so many complex curves in this ship, I have no idea how you're going to blend it all together.

Yeah, they were more triangular in v1, but these started out as a arch kind of shape. I was just happy I got it all concave. :)

Small update. The green stuff is all temporary, and I tried to break up the saucer some. Let me know if you don't like it.

Yeah, I agree. Just wanted to break the surface up.

I'm having a hard time getting the secondary hull shaped right. It might be a while before we have any more updates. :)

How big is this starship supposed to be? Is she considerably smaller than a Sovereign-class cruiser?

If I understand the lines correctly, she seems like a replacement for a Voyager/Interpid class ship, or maybe smaller.

Very interesting design. Fresh approach, while still echoing the TOS E.

Looking forward to seeing more.

I think this is great! I have had this thing for awhile about connecting the nacelles to the saucer instead of struts...this looks awsome.
And while I don't personally care for the TNG look in general (not in a mean way..just...I like the older stuff) wow, you've really made the curves and shapes flow nicely together...looks functional. "Warp-field-dynamic-rules"?
Very nice.

Looking forward to the end result.

Thanks. I understand what you mean about TNG era ships, I like the older designs also.

I think I am about to retool this a little.

I wish my mesh would do justice to his sketches. :)

Is is certainly smaller then the Sovereign Class, as per the rules of the contest. It is about the same size as the Intrepid Class, in overall dimensions, though her internal volume is a little greater.

I have the details for the ship on another computer that is over an hour away from where I live. When I go over again, I'll post it.

Here are some larger images. I wanted something to look part of the TNG moive era (the saucer/ uni-hull look); something to look different yet familiar (the cylindical nacelles- but lblended into the top and lower hull); and something older movie looking/ familiar (window shapes/ bridge/ cylindical nacelles). But I wanted the shape to have a reason too. The unihull was for duability on long missions away from home- the nacelles blending into the hulls, again, for more structural integrity. Shuttle bay at the ass of the ship to keep shuttle away from other parts of the ship. The deflector is a new concept with a wider sweeping field. The organic "egg" shape of the overall vessel works better with the warp field dynamics.

I'm really looking forward to see how MadMan fleshes out this ship!

Crap- time for work!

^I like this design! Kinda novel but keeping with the classic tradition. My sole criticism would have to be that the bussard collectors should be more convex shaped, like those of the Sovereign.

Interesting design. Was this design one of my competition from the Design the Titan Contest?

I like the way the nacelles are hooked into the saucer.

I also like the 360 degree phaser strip.

Keep up the good work.

Yes. I made this one specifically for the contest- though i missed the deadline by a couple of hours!

The phaser strip that I think you're refering to, is not a phase strip. It's just a flat part of the hull that I emphasized with the blue. It's hard to see because the pics are so small.

MadMan's work on this is finally letting me see this ship as it was meant to be seen. So hopefully all those crazy curves won't be too much trouble!
