Star Trek The Tour?

I'm sorry, I'm new to the board and may have missed it but does any body
have any information on The Tour? I have not been able to find anything
since the opening in California. Thanks for any information.

Star Trek: The Tour (now known as Star Trek: The Exhibition) is currently at the San Diego Air and Space Museum. It's pretty cool.

It did indeed start as "The Tour", making it's debut in Long Beach, Ca. It ran for quite a few months (those in charge even extended it) before closing it's doors.

What happened next I'm not completely clear on, however someone can fill in the details. The Tour, being closed down, was undergoing a change in size...basically, the intent was to split the exhibit into two traveling shows so they could maximize profit (conjecture, but it makes sense). The unfortunate thing for those who would attend the, now re-titled, "Exhibition", was that everything seen at the first 'Tour' would no longer be available.

To give an example, I did happen to go to The Tour on it's first weekend. The San Diego Aerospace Museum is a decent-sized facility, but walking through the Exhibition was both ironic and confusing. It was ironic because the tour was practically 'sandwiched' inbetween other exhibits and planes (for instance, you'd be perusing the "History of the Future" timeline with an old WWI prop plane hanging over your head). Confusing, was because the entire exhibit was built around the previous attractions in the museum, so it was zigged-zagged throughout the first part of the building. This made it a little odd when doors that went to other parts of the Exhibition were left open, and there was a corridor to your right...you weren't sure which way to go.

Those two reasons, and also given the amount of things inside the museum, is a fair enough reason for why 'The Exhibition' was reduced in size. Unfortunately, this is the only Exhibition I'm aware of, being that the second half should have the Enterprise-D bridge...a mockup of the original Enterprise' bridge is at the SD Aerospace Museum. But, it was said that a second Exhibition would tour, however i have yet to see anything.

Still, it was enjoyable. I actually liked how they set it up, and the whole "irony" of walking through future technology and history whilst old French, German and American prop planes hung over your head added a bit of "What if?" nostalgia to the mix. I also liked how they had two original flights suit, one from Gemini and one from Apollo, inside the exhibit next to a rotating table with the refit-Enterprise on display.

I've got pictures if anyone would like to see them. Please enjoy!

Thanks for the update Sky.

I guess at this point we just sit and wait to see what they are gonna do.

My sons and I saw the Exhibition on opening day at the SDASM and were impressed. They had the 1701 bridge that you could stroll, the Guardian of Forever, Picard's chair, a Klingon captain's chair, Picard's quarters, plus a very cool timeline and other props and photos. The coolest part, though, was that the Okudas were there. We approached him and asked how they were involved with the Exhibition and he said they were technical advisors making sure everything was displayed and labeled properly. We asked if they were going to be involved in any way with STXI and he said they weren't but that they were completely supportive of the work being done by JJA and Co. He said he was very impressed with his work in the past and all that he's heard about the film project. He said that the movie was in excellent hands and that he and his wife understood that JJA wanted to use all different people on this project. It was the right thing to do, to bring in new blood, he added. He couldn't have been nicer, being very interested in talking to us and other fans. He was clearly excited both about the Exhibition and the new movie.

That really ticks me off that they are splitting up the Tour into 2 exhibits.
I don't want to have to fly back and forth across the country to see everything.

I hear ya. I live in San Diego, and kicked myself for not driving up to Long Beach to see the original "Tour". :brickwall:

When I found out that the second Exhibition was going to Phoenix, I figured it'd be worth a trip to go there and then head to Tucson after(or vice versa). The Titan Missile Museum is out there, and I've been wanting to see it for some time (plus, it's an added bonus considering they used the silo as the Phoenix set in First Contact).

Here's a link to the Titan Missile Museum if anyone's interested:

For once living in Tucson is an advantage. I can't wait.

LoneKing you might also want to try the Air & Space Museum here in Tucson. I thinks its the second or third largest in the country. There's an SR-71 on display along with a cutout engine. There's no ST connection that I know of though.

It looks like a lot of the TOS items are replicas-i.e. it was hard to be sure but the TOS landing party set all looked like replicas. I wonder if the TOS uniforms were genuine, ones used in DS9 or ENT, or just new replicas. Does anybody know?

I believe some were from TOS while others were indeed made for DS9 and ENT. All are from the Paramount warehouse auctions. I believe there's a link to Penny Juday, former ST warehouse keeper, on all this somewhere.

And the second half of the Exhibition is opening in Phoenix this month. But that's probably what was in the linked article...

uh...

never mind.

Hey all,
Well, I live in San Diego and both my girlfriend and I visited the tour in Long Beach not knowing it was coming to San Diego. And I gotta say I was VERY happy that we did.

The Long Beach facility was spacious and able to handle the entire exhibit and then some(former spruce goose hanger I believe). We spent HOURS there... The only downfall I'd say was paying for parking...! But I guess it's a necessary evil this day and age, so no biggie.

So fast forward 5 months or so and we hear that the exhibit is at San Diego Aerospace Museum. I'm very familiar with all the museums as I live about two blocks from Balboa Park...but the aerospace museum? It's circular and an odd set up. Works well with what's there, but not sure how'd they set it up 'the tour'. Even though we hit up the LB location...we figure'd it's worth going again and supporting the museum.

Wow, were we disappointed. It's said that the exhibit has been split into two, but it really doesn't seem like 50% was there. More like 25% or less. Again, it's a weird set up because of the museum layout...but I gotta say, I'm *REALLY* glad we went to LB. Now, don't let me dissuade(sp?) you from going...if you are a trek fan, you'll like it. But I guess I was just expecting more...a lot more. All the stuff I saw at the LB location. Oh yeah, one more thing that bugged me, they didn't allow photography at the SDASM one! :wtf: Not that it didn't stop me, I snapped away with my digital...but seriously. Why???

Guess I'm just lucky to live semi close to where the exhibit started(2 hours). Good luck checking it out wherever it goes!
