Watching Frasier for the First Time

I'm about halfway through the first season now (just finished the Christmas episode) and there hasn't been a single episode that I haven't absolutely loved. This is definitely turning into my favourite sitcom ever!

What are all your thoughts on the show?

First few seasons are brilliant; truly brilliant.

After a while it descends into slightly repetitive farce. But still always with some magnificent lines.

I share FAR too many traits with Niles for comfort. At least I have no Maris at home!

it fades in the later seasons but comes back strong at the end.

Though I may have to start a separate thread (no spoilers here!) to explain the last scene of the last episode.

WOW!!!

And the show just keeps getting better and BETTER!!!!!

You are in for a HELL of a treat!!!!!

One of THE BEST sitcoms and one of THE FUNNIEST and cleverest ever made.

Must mirror the thoughts of previous posters.. It's without a doubt the smartest sitcom ever written.. There are some stinker episodes later on, to be sure, but they always seeemed to make up for it..

The Niles/Daphne storyline DID get a bit tiresome... But I second the thought that the show in its last couple of seasons really made up for it.

I envy your voyage of discovery...

Frasier being trapped inside a snowglobe and the audience being told he never leaped home -- what needs to be explained? :p

Frasier is, as I have said repeatedly, the Shakespearean comedy of our age, timeless in its humor and subtext, brilliant in its satire and farce.

Smart, funny, well-acted and especially well-written.

Wait a few seasons. The 7-minute Niles bit opening a Valentine episode is a classic TV sequence.

Do not even think of trying to find the old...Best of Frasier...threads. It would be way too many spoilers.

I'm on this bandwagon and have been sice it started, so many scenes will never be topped on TV in my lifetime.

Brilliant is the word that comes to mind.

Enjoy!

Great, great show. It did go downhill at times, but it did have an amazing number of truly hilarious episodes.

Oh, being like Niles from Season 8 onwards might not be so bad.;)

I'm a big fan of the show. Seasons 1-6 are absolutely some of the best TV ever made. It started to lose some steam in the later seasons. A lot of the later episodes hold up OK on their own but they're clearly repetitive of earlier stories. For example, there are 2 different episodes where a gay man thinks that he is dating Frasier and a 3rd where a gay man thinks that he's dating Martin. (Though, as a consolation prize, the gay man in question is played by Patrick Stewart in one of the episodes.:guffaw:)

I love the episodes where Lilith comes back.

Jane Leeves is one of the hottest women ever to be on TV. If you're not completely in love with her after "Moon Dance," it means you don't like girls.

Maris is the funniest off-screen TV character in history. (Well, the narrator on Arrested Development comes close, but Maris still wins out because she's hilarious completely through the power of implication.)

BTW, a fun little bonus in the form of a Frasier/Star Trek: Voyager crossover... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q6iI1iSdXGM

Let me know when you get to the episode where something important is going to happen under a time crunch and everyone is running around confused and there's some kind of misunderstnading.

I had to get my S1 DVD out after reading this thread last night, now I think i'm gonna have to watch the whole damn show from start to finish again. Been a few years :)
