Dead Set: E4 (UK) Zombie Big Brother Drama Thingy

Did anyone see this last night? It was very good, very creepy and bloody disturbing. Seeing Davina McCall being maimed and zombiefied was possibly the most unsettling thing I've ever seen on telly ever.

For those not in the know, it's a 5 part zombie drama set in a fictional Big Brother house (yes, the shitty yet ubiquitous reality TV wankfest) written by the brillianter than you Charlie Brooker.

The world has gone to hell in a George A. Romero handbasket on the outside, and the contestants of Big Brother have to work together to survive - which is difficult when your team consists of people who have been specifically chosen by TV producers to annoy each other.

Yeah it was really quite good.

Now onto the one bad point, well for me anyway......When any action seems to happen we enter the world of extreme shaky camera, which i truly hate in TV and films, at some stages it looks like two camera men are fighting over the camera just when a bit of action starts. really pisses me off all this extreme shaky camera crap, really can be off putting.

But apart from that i will stick with it as it seem to be quite good.

Buy? I work for a living. I'll email Channel 4 and tell them they're being discriminatory.

Joking aside, Channel Four are partly funded with public money, aren't they? Should be platform neutral like the beeb imho.

Nope, no public money, but they're a publicly owned not for profit organisation. Can you get media wrapper and Flip2WMV for the mac and use the online streaming version of 4oD?

I meant to watch, but I went to see Burn After Reading last night, then some how got roped in to taking my nieces to see High School Musical 3 this morning. But I plan on watching it before tonight's episode.

But don't the BBC contribute resources and content to them? Even if they're not directly funded by the license, I'm positive that BBC money gets to them in a roundabout way.

Damn right he is!

Watching it right now on the online catch-up streamy thingy. Just got to the first ad break, so not much has happened - but I'm liking it so far. The always wonderful Kevin Eldon playing a right old moany twattybollocks? Groovy.

OK, off to watch more...

No, not that I know of, at least not yet. This is what this whole PSB Review is about, OFCOM want to top slice the licence to plug the funding gap. Although BBC are covering £14m worth of their digital switchover costs, I believe.

Hmm, weird. I applied for a job with BBC Wales once, and the job posting mentioned the post would be working on BBC output as well as S4C, but I guess S4C is a different thing again.

My word the British television industry is confusing. No wonder we're all barmy.

Is that what Paxo was ranting about? D'you think it will swing that way? I predict bloodshed.

Yeah, S4C commission shows mostly from the beeb and indies.

If we're talking about the OFCOM PSB Review, I believe they've already decided that they're going to take part of the licence and offer funding to anyone who wants to make a show OFCOM class as public service television. So Sky could theoretically call Ross Kemp on Gangs PSB, and get public funding for it.

ITV and Five have threatened to hand their public service licences back, and given up any claim to their subsidies over it.

I'm almost finished with the episode now, I'm really enjoying it, Horror/Comedy, with the balance firmly on the horror side. So it gets a :techman: from me.

Looks like it did well in the ratings, too.

E4's original drama Dead Set got off to a strong start last night (Monday) with over 1 million viewers, according to overnight figures.

The five-part series - a zombie horror set in a fictional Big Brother house - is being stripped every night this week on the digital channel. The hour-long first episode pulled in an average of 1.19m and an 8.2% share from 10pm, with a peak of 1.41m (8.3%) at 10.10pm. A further 220,000 (2.9%) watched an hour later on timeshift channel E4+1.

really enjoying it, watching it in the half hour chunks is annoying (the acting is a little bit naff at times from some of then but still good zombie horror. I think the DVD is out next week

SPOILERS!!!

So the last episode was on last night... why hasn't this thread been updated?! It was awesome!
Been watching it all week but only felt like posting till the whole thing had finished.

Wow, the last part was pretty gory eh? :D Producer Patrick's death was great!
"Yeah, eat me you fucking shits!!!"

The ending was quite grim too, even in the Romero films there are always a few survivors by the end.
I don't really get though how Joplin, Marky, Veronica and Kelly all had become zombies by the end. Surely they'd have been wripped to shreds (like Patrick) by the masses of undead

All in all though a great little series. I'll defo get the DVD at some point, but seems pointless right away having just watched it all. Interesting to see what extras are on it

the producer annoyed me in parts 1 & 2, but he was great, in 3, 4 & 5.

and ooh Ghost Willow, I love Ghost Willow
