I wouldn't care if James Cameron wanted to do a new STAR TREK series on TV, based in the same time frame as this new movie...why? Because we all know, as before, they will use the same sets for the movie for the new series, just redressed..and then when the next movie comes out regular people, who are not fans, will say 'why bother going to the movie when its really just a two-hour version of what they have on TV, filmed on the same sets....

Nope...NO trek-tv series until at last five more years...there isn't a demand for it, beyond the fan base, and barely 2 million a week of the base bothered to even watch VOYAGER/ENTERPRISE towards the end....

René Echevarria and Ira Steven Behr. Bring back the DS9 team.

They did an excellent job with DS9. Bring them and JJ Abrams into it and you will have one hell of a show.

I would be for this IF it didn't take place in the same time frame as the movie series..any show that would just use those sets would cheapen the feel of the new movie series..

I remember when Generations came out and my non-ST fans, who are mainly SW fans, getting all over me because most of that movie was filmed on what appeared to be the same sets of the Show..hallways, bridge (which I think was new, but still) the transporter room, sickbay...even the klingon ship was an obvious reuse of V's klingon ship.

TMP, for all its problems, at least had 'new' everything. (yes, I know, phase II sets)..but it was still new....

And when you're obviously sharing sets with TV cousins, then it is just a cue to the casual fan, or non-fan, that you're making a two-hour TV movie..

I just think that having both a film and TV series set in the exact same era is a bad idea, IMO. I always felt it led to the oversaturation of Trek during the late '90s. While there's potential for crossovers all right, I believe losing the uniqueness of both outweighs that.

It would be different if Star Trek XI is just a one movie only thing, but I get the feeling that it isn't...

I voted for James Cameron. The guy who should be making the movie would make a kick-ass TV series.
