...would you like to see as a future companion for the Doctor?

I was thinking of this after watching the last episode of SJA when Mr. Truman compared Rani's relationship with Sarah Jane to Sarah Jane's relationship with the Doctor.

All of Sarah Jane's sidekicks (well, with the exception of Kelsey ) would make for fun future companions for the Doctor. Because really, Doctor Who will be around long after the Sarah Jane Adventures has finished its run.

I think it would be cool to have an older Luke hanging around the tardis. Or perhaps Rani could act as Sarah Jane 2.0?

no question Luke, yeah ok he has already been in it once, but I believe he would make a brilliant companion to the Doctor, once hes done a few more years hunting aliens with Sarah Jane, what else could he do with his life?

Luke would be a good choice for sure, if for nothing else to play against the usual Doctor+female dynamic. However, my pick would be Maria because through Series 1 I was quite impressed by Yasmin Paige's performance, and it would be cool to see an older, more seasoned Maria bopping through time and space with the Doctor.

I dont disagree with the idea of Maria being in the TARDIS, I see no reason why she & Luke cant both be companions, however I may feel that about Rani come the end of S2.

Its funny the Doctor & female companion vibe, is in danger of becoming "stale" I certinaly think the three person dynamic would be a goo idea for S5, one man, one woman.

Yeah, I'm having a hard time deciding which character I'd like it see on Doctor Who most.

Maria might be a better pick than the rest because she chose to walk away from her life of adventure for the sake of her father's career. I could imagine a 20-something Maria finished with school, and realizing she's missing out on something bigger.

Like how Donna realized she made a mistake not accepting the Doctor's offer to be his companion after "The Runaway Bride."

Plus, Maria's premature departure from SJA means her character won't have been played out like the others might be when the show comes to an end.

My other choice would be Luke. He could easily keep up with the Doctor. Sort of like having another Time Lord in the Tardis. Plus, it would give another reason for the occasional Sladen appearance, which would be fun.

I could see her character being conflicted on her feelings about Luke traveling through time and space. Part of her is happy he gets to experience what she experienced. And part of her knows how dangerous it is and feels uneasy about letting him go.

The only downside I can think of is that he might be too smart for his own good. Things could get stale after awhile.

But like wamdue said, what else could he do with his life? Work for UNIT or Torchwood maybe. I'm sure by traveling with the doctor Luke for the first time in his life might feel normal in comparison.

I agree that Maria and Luke together would be a lot of fun. That or Luke and Clyde.

As for Kelsey, I think everyone likes to pretend she didn't exist.

You know, I hate to say this, because it would be very, very dark, but it would be, IMO, an interesting twist to either kill off Sarah at the end of her series (heroically of course) and set it up for her to will custody of Luke and K9 to the Doctor or for some terrible accident to happen to her as a result of her work, so the Doctor steps in to care for Luke while Sarah recuperates - but because Maria has been exposed to so much (and therefore knowing too much) he takes Maria with him in order to protect her as well.

you make a good point the problem is come the end of S2 how will that not apply to Rani?

I thought Maria might leave with K9, since the Doctor gave Sarah Jane K9, I thought she might do the same for Maria.
