Is this Star Trel XI or Star Trek I?

Let's face it.

Star Treks I - X were all centered around established casts and crews. Some argument could be made that even when the TNG movies started the counting of the movies was "rebooted."

But with this completely new cast (playing established characters not withstanding) one wonders if maybe this is NOT Star Trek XI but a whole new movie series.

Meaning that. If this cast gets a second movie, the next one should be "Star Trek II: Subtitle"

Well, it is Trek XI to me.
Besides, it's not the official title of the movie and it works for us here to identify which movie we are talking about.
Maybe make it Star Trek 2009 if it pleases you.

Officially though I wouldn't like to see numbering in the future.
Keep it Star Trek : something not Star Trek II or XII : something

It's Trek XI. It's using the established characters, the writers and directors say it's just filling in gaps within the established timeline, and a spiffy new bridge isn't enough for me to call this a redo.

Pretty sure Nemesis wasn't numbered X in the title, Insurrection numbered IX, First Contact VII... the fans have been and will refer to it as Star Trek XI to avoid confusing it with TOS. It is the eleventh feature film, we'll call it as such, most likely, because that's what we've been doing.
