Nice guesstimates. Im working on a 3d version of what the chair may look like in full. its in sketch mode at the moment and probably wont make it to 3d but ill give it a go around work.

Are we really going to keep calling it the hostess' station?

*snip*

Yes!

She will always be the hostess.

When you see the movie, i bet the first thing you think of is; "Table for two please, non smoking."
Yes, Yes and yes, most places don't offer smoking sections anymore unless they have outdoor seating, but yes I have worked in the resturaunt buissness for over 10 yrs, I will forever call it a hostess stand

We could call it the Greeter's Station? She greets all who get off the turbolift with a smile and a kind word...

Ok, I just did this, so I'll post it in here:

Crappy photoshopped Enterprise!

^ I don't think that looks bad at all. In fact, I'd like something like that. Although the design lacks a certain kind of headgear. ;)

Well done, ancient. :techman:

I really hate this bridge, it looks like a parody of a sci-fi movie, rather than a serious attempt at what a starship bridge would look like.

Comparing current and speculative technology from a 2008 perspective, a very good argument could be made that every bridge in Star Trek is a parody of what a real starship bridge might be like.

I take your point but compare it to these already established ideas of what one would look like:

The one in this movie looks like something out of galaxy quest, a "scary movie"esque parody of the real ST.

I know they have to make changes, and adapt, but I don't think major set changes (other than common sense updates iven the diffrent times the sets are going to be built in) were the way to go, I think changes in the way they approch the story would have been best.

At this point most Trek bridges -- old and new -- look like little more than fancy movie sets. None of them screams "realistic" to me.

The new thing is no different. It's a spiffy-looking movie set.

I don't know about those glass panels. If that one on the left is aimed backwards and not forwards, it's right in front of the turbolift. That seems a little odd. Maybe it keeps fat crewmen off the bridge...

Very nice work Ancient.

But where's the bowling alley?

Thanks. I'll get to work on figuring that out. I should have the answer in about 40 years. ;)

Here's a slightly better version of the Enterprise/Kelvin hack-job:

This time the saucer rim is angled the right way...

...and you know what a starship bridge in a fictional future universe with fictional handwavium technology would really look like... how?

I sense a growing consensus....

Well seeing as how this film was made for the general public, it doesn't matter what we think. This film was not made for those who visit an internet Star Trek message board...and I am perfectly fine with that. Go watch TOS if you want to, I don't care, but coming into every single thread just to get your two cents in is getting old.

wait... looking at that picture of the Sovereign class bridge, I see what appears to be two hostess stations.

Lose Riker and Troi's chairs, streamline the center seat, add an additional station to the rear wall, and it doesn't really look all that different than what we've seen of the new bridge.
