MLB Chatter 2008

I'm beginning to be convinced that the Sox are incapable of dying ever, and will continue to flirt with elimination just to mock people who want them to lose before charging on to the WS.

By the the Seventh tonight they were like, oh shit, we better start winning. Hold on a sec....boom victory.

All I can say is I can't believe they are still alive.

The Sox will lose tomorrow's game, game 6, I thought it would end with game six.

Of course it should be 3-2 Sox lead, but that damn Timlin that NO ONE trusts except the people running the Red Sox! No one. I talked to my grandpa the day after that game and I went "Did you watch the whole game?", his reply was "Yeah, when Timlin went in I knew the game was over".

Now THAT's more like the BoSox we've come to expect. I'm still rooting for the Rays, but taht's the kidn of comeback that 30 years from now people will be saying "I was there when Bi Papi ..."

Ashamed to admit that I shut the TV off after they gave up the 2-run hit to make it 7-0 in the 7th. It was 10:30 and they hadn't done shit, so figured why lose sleep?

Great comeback! Be nice if Beckett can man up and pull one more good game out of his ass, but not expecting it. All we can hope for is that the bats are finally waking up, or that Tampa is back on its heels a bit after choking up a 7-0 lead in a deciding game. Don't think the Sox will go all the way here, but nice to see them putting up a little fight and now rolling over to die.

As for 'Tek, he'll be back. He's not going anywhere on his own, and the Sox have no replacement to push him out the door for. They've gotta be hoping for 2 years, maybe an option for a 3rd that vests with performance, and at a cheaper pay rate. They then have to go get someone to replace him, and slowly phase the new kid in over a couple years. I could definitely see 'Tek staying on as a coach, as well. Maybe a few years off first, but he's got a stamped ticket in Boston, so would be welcomed into the coaching squad. Maybe pitching coach after some team smartens up and makes John Farrell a head coach somewhere (he's had a few offers). 'Tek in that role would be fantastic!

I agree about Farrell. He has manager written all over him. I love him as a pitching coach, and I almost think that the Sox are on borrowed time with him, because some team is gonna smarten up and make him a manager.

It's going to be VERY interesting to see hwo the Rays espond in game 6, Saturday. The pressure is largely on them, if for no other rason than they blew a large lead late inteh clinching game. Being a team of younger players, they could succumb to the pressure in sepctacular fashion. The BoSox obviously have been here before - pushed to the bring and won everything they needed to. They are a team of real veterans to all of the hoopla and pressure.

Still, it's not as if the Rays haven't had a few gut checks before. Maddon has pushed all the right buttons when the pressure was amped up, so there's little reason to think he can't do it again. Plus, the BoSox have two win two more straight. whereas the Rays only have to win one.

This is going to be exquisite to watch! Wish we didn't have to wait so long until the WS, though. :p

I was late to a dinner in the city because of the Fenway traffic. I cursed and screamed and moaned at them as I drove by the stadium on Thursday. And then they pulled that game off. Its my fault I bet. I hate that team.

^ I bet all those Fenway faithful are really kicking themselves in the ass for leaving Game 5 right before Papi hit that home run.

In a way, that's like when the Dodgers beat the A's on Kirk Gibson's walk-off homer. A great many fans left THAT game early... and then you know the rest. But yeah.... it's understandbale why you'd leave early with the way that game and the way the previous two had gone. But this was the ALCS!!! I don't care if you're losing by double digits, you should stay until that last out.

I remember this one AHL game years and years ago back in Springfield, Mass. The Springfield team was losing when a whole bunch of us decided to leave the game early, only to hear roaring cheering as Springfield scored goal after goal (we ran back and forth between the ramp into the arena and the exits for a bit while at first).

The Indians or the Falcons? I'm going with Indians because the Falcons don't go anywhere, and never seem to be able to score. :)

I think they were still the Indians at the time.

That was a tense one, but Beckett had a good night (finally) and the Rays seemed a bit shaky under the pressure.

Game 7 tomorrow. :)

So who the hell is showing Game 7?

My DVR guide says it's TBS, but the game isn't on their schedule tomorrow.

TBS (presuming they don't have a circuit breaker problem), as they have a deal with MLB to alternate NLCS and ALCS game coverage. I'm guessing they weren't assuming there would be a Game 7 and haven't yet revised their schedule.

EDIT: The Sox will have Lester (1.83 2008 post-season ERA) start tomorrow, but with both Byrd and Dice-K available out of the bullpen. That plus their usual relievers should be formidable.

They might just put the "Men in Black" tape on the shelf and show the game.
