OMG first shot of the new bridge!!!

I've gotta disagree, friend. Its a huge starship with multiple missions and a crew of hundreds, capable of doing amazing things that defy the laws of physics as we understand them today. The control center is going to be a busy place. Nothing about it looks spoofish to me - it all looks very organized and functional, if very sleek and advanced.

You are, of course, entitled to disagree with me! But let me point out one example, regarding the lights.

The lights rimming the overhead displays make them look like stage dresser mirrors. In addition, they have extra glow and light coming from every nook and cranny. Functional means have a well lighted workplace. Having lights coming from every direction, meaning that you will be looking into a light regardless of your position, is irritating and distracting. That is one of the reasons why I feel it is beyond functional and over the top.

^Agreed. Those lights were placed only with the camera in mind and no regard to a true working environment.

Now, here is a thought. Since this has been confirmed to be the Enterprise bridge. Maybe, in the course of her "first mission", (the movie), she gets damaged and the table is destroyed along with some or all of the HUD's! At least I can hope.

I may not like the design of the bridge, but I don't let things like that ruin a movie for me. If it's got a good plot/dialog/acting, then I will like it. My inner designer may kringe a little, but I will live.

I suppose a comparison to Apple/Ipod is appropriate. If you consider Apple design to be artistic and tasteful, and most do, then you will probably like the new Enterprise interiors.

Well, lessee....here's the original bridge....

And here's the new and, allegedly, improved one...

Oh, yeah, they're virtually identical.

What flavor Kool-Aid is JJ serving these days?

Often stills don't do the bridges justice. We'll see video in less than a month.

I kinda like it. I just wish that the lighting was darker. It kinda has a Andromeda feel to it. I will reserve judgement 'til I see more. The Uniforms aren't as bad as I feared they would be. I say we give it a chance.

I've never understood how waiting and seeing the same scene in the movie will somehow improve my impression of what I think about that set or any other visual item from the movie.

Right now its just a picture, taken out of context and presenting an incomplete perception of the bridge, the characterizations, and the tone of the film.

Wait and see the movie. Then decide if you like it or not. Hate it all you want, but at least see the thing before you decide to.

This might be a production 'on set' shot, not an actual image from the movie, hence the bright lighting, and Spock doing an impression of John McCain.

I'm an Apple person. I have an eMac and a new iPod, and I don't care for this new set.

Just sayin'.

IMHO the uniforms don't fit in with the set design. It's like Kirk and company found an Enterprise from a parallel universe.

I kinda like it.

I hope against hope though, that they won't have exploding consoles. Alas they probably will.

About the lighting issues, here's the kinda lighting you have on real, functioning bridges (all of these pictures can be enlarged to high resolution by clicking the Download HiRes link at the right):

However it's a bit misleading I guess because during the day those bridges are lit by a lot of natural sunlight coming through the windows. A starship in in space is a different matter. A better comparison would be the Tactical Command Center located below decks and with no outside natural lighting:

The blue lighting is deliberate.. it's less tiring on the eyes of people who have to watch computer screens and consoles for long periods.

They even have big ole screen setups in there not dissimilar to the ST main viewscreen for seeing what's going on outside (the one in this pic is on the Enterprise ironically enough):

^Ditto. I just showed my dad the picture and we agree there's too much blue, too brightly lit. The old bridge use of red and orange tones gave it a touch of warmth, the new one looks somewhat cold and sterile, a little too perfect.

It'll probably seem better in the film itself, but overall I kinda like it, then again I don't mind the reboot thing.

The floor, the bridge railings and the chair-backs other than Kirk's are red. So that's a fair amount.

I love the new Bridge, so far. Very futuristic, very sleek. I like it brightly lit, as it was throughout most of the original series.

But then, "Galaxy Quest" is my favorite "Star Trek" movie...and what Abrams says about it in the new "Entertainment Weekly" is true. ;)

Newsflash, ST is in the 23rd century, and the brighter lighting makes it look more high tech.

Okay..here is the deal. I am a retired Navy Vet. I work for the Navy, right now, as a contractor. I can tell you, because I am aboard Air Craft Carriers alot, and sometimes subs, they are not that brightly lit. The bridge in the XI pictures look nothing like a real ship, which is okay since it is in the far future. All i am saying is that the lighting is Gaudy, and there is no lighting like that, as far as I can tell, in the navy. Perhaps in the Air Force? Maybe. But when I was on the bridge watch, as late as ten years ago, it was more like the lighting on Crimson Tide or Hunt For Red October..not some TRON set looking thing like XI's bridge looks like..
