Kai Winn... Don't You Just Love To Hate Her?

I think Keiko was a good buffer for O'Brien- yes, not as joyful and carefree- that could be racial, but she keep him from being to xenophobic too, insisting he give Cardassians etc. a chance- like the young boy- that would have gone totally different without her.

Um...you mean Keiko's behavior was racial? I don't think I buy that... :cardie:

But I think the same purpose could've been accomplished--putting O'Brien on a more even keel--without her having to be a jerk.

No, I mean that some Asian cultures suppress their emotions more than those in Western ones do. If Rosalind Chao was raised in that way- even tho she was born in the US, she is Chinese, her parents were born there, she was born in California after they moved- so their cultural teachings would have been taught to her- then expressing and showing emotions could have been very difficult for her. Or at least more difficult then someone in western society. Sometimes people who are taught in any degree to suppress emotions come off as curt, even rude, without meaning to be. I think she did good to be a disciplinarian, a teacher, putting up with Miles- really nice, but also xenophobic, living in a place she didn't want to be, where she couldn't further her career... and still being helpful and generous.

Looks like you have a typo in your sig, Marie1. You have "signs" where I think you meant "sings". :)

Thanks to you and someone in another thread for catching that... I would *never* have noticed it, (I had to stare for a second at it. :S ) and would have continued looking ridiculous! Well... more than a person whose fav alien is a Jem'Hadar could possibly be... LOL

I was just thinking last night as I finished up S3, what an excellent villian Kai Winn is. For Star Trek villians, I think she is comparable to Khan - not always a monster, a well developed, 3 dimensional villian. The only thing that holds her back is her lack of experience in areas other than political backstabbing and maneuvering.
I would even say she is Shakespearean in her almost seething duplicity.

Someone on here mentioned it would have been cool if we saw Kai Winn in the psychiatric hospital with Benny ;)

Given the fact that Louise Fletcher also played Nurse Ratched in 'One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest,' that would be highly amusing.

Hated the caniving character, Louise Fletcher put a little of 'Nurse Ratched' into the Kai. who came across as a back stabber at times.

Did anyone cheer when Dukat killed Winn by engulfing her in flames?

No. In fact I was kinda hoping Winn would have survived to push Sisko and Dukat into the fire. Then claim that she helped the Emissary in the final battle. It would be so Winn.

I didn't like Winn in the later seasons mainly because her storyline, mostly in the Final Chapter kind of sucked. It took away from what was happening on the Station and on Cardassia and it was annoying whenever they would go back to her and Dukat. She was a great character (In a love to hate kind of way) in the much earlier seasons when she was still a Vedek and just started Kai. After that, it all went downhill.

I'm thankful that they included something about Bajor in the Final Arc. Bajor tended to get sidelines after WotW.

Pity it wasn't actually something good. I think it might have been interesting if Bajor joined the Federation during the war. Maybe have scenes of the Bajoran milita getting their Federation uniforms and joining ships.

Seems she made such an impression of evil that everyone forgets at the very end she did try to redeem herself and gave Sisko aid, and got barbecued for her troubles.

There wouldn't have been any trouble if it wasn't for her! She was terrible, attempted murder etc., then wondered why her gods didn't speak to her... surprise surprise...
