Your LEAST favorite Star Trek Novel?

Definitely "Before Dishonor" and that's just from flipping through it in the bookstore. Why is TNG the place where other Trek captains go to die senseless deaths?

Er... what other captains have gone on to die senselessly in TNG novels?

Creditorly yours, the Rent Woman

I was referring to TNG as both books and movies.

Wait, you mean Kirk? Kirk did not die senselessly; Kirk gave his life saving the lives of millions of people on Veridian IV. We should all be so lucky to have made the sum of our lives, let alone its final moments, count for so much. (...of course, having millions of people be in danger with such frequency wouldn't be lucky at all, but you get my meaning.)

By contrast, Janeway's death enabled the slaughter of thousands and the imperilment of billions. Plus, there's the whole 'fatally violated while Q looks on and laughs' angle. Kirk's death was respectful, coming with both the vindication of victory and in a moment of communion with Picard, a fellow Enterprise captain. Janeway was just gutted by the Borg like a moose in Alaska.

Given the beating I've taken in this forum in the past, I think I have to say I love every novel ever written with the works "Star Trek" on it.

I think I'm well on my way to joining you! I could use a drink. In fact, this forum needs a bar and I'm opening one right now. What's your poison? :D

Ok, which movie is that from?? I know it's Spock in a TOS movie, I just cannot remember which one.:brickwall:

Oh, that's right. The saddest thing about my not remembering that is the fact that I just watched TS4S last month. But, I'm also in school right now, so my brain is pretty frazzled most of the time.

Definitely "Before Dishonor"

100% /sign! Worst ST book I ever read. I mean it's not only the [insert bad word here] death of Janeway, but also the action sequences, way over the top and totally unbelievable (eating Pluto and this whole 'supercube' concept....what is this, Marvel gone Trek???) And in the character department...if I hadn't known the names I would never have recognized Picard and co...

This novel came as a total disappointment after the wonderful Q&A and the equally lovely A time to...series for me sadly.

I don't get all the hate for Before Dishonor. But that just encourages me, reinforces the ideas behind IDIC. We don't all like the same stuff. And isn't that comforting?

I don't understand the hate either, I must admit a few scenes annoyed me (I can't remember which as I read it when it came out over here almost a year ago now) but on the whole it was for me an enjoyable read. As for the big death towards the end, the person in question who died for me was dead from as soon as the Cube absorbed her and assimilated her as for that level of assimilation, I doubt there was no coming back.
