kirk OR Denny Crane

William Shatner's Denny Crane over took his character, captain Kirk, in terms of which one I preferred, two years ago. I think Denny Crane is Shatner's greatest character, in a long career. I know, on a Star Trek site, this thought may be in the minority...but oh well. To me Denny has shown far more depth, and growth, than Kirk.

:devil:Buuuurnnnn the WWWitchhhhh!!!!!!!!!:devil::devil::devil:

All joking aside, I have not had the pleasure yet of viewing any of the Boston Legal series, but look forward at some time to doing so.

RobertScorpio, do you think James Spader's character is essential for Denny Crane? Would Denny Crane have gone through the changes and self-realization he did if he did not have this friendship?

Totally agree...and Kirk was supposed to have that kind of relationship with Spock. But when comparing the shows? Alan Shore is more of a friend to Denny than Spock was ever to Kirk..IMO.

James Ti-motherfuckin'-berius KIRK.

Easy. Not even close.

Though Denny Crane is amusing and fun to watch. Gotta give Shatner props for crafting a modern and shady TV character that's earned him multiple Emmys and Golden Globes. Kirk did neither.

Denny Crane is like Dan Fielding from NIGHT COURT with even worse hair and a paunch.

Denny Crane is Shatner's best character, with James T. Kirk coming in second. Never thought I'd hear myself say it, but there it is. Then again, Crane couldn't really have existed without Kirk (or at least without the Shatner persona we all know and love/hate due to the fame he earned as Kirk).

I think that Denny Crane is Shatner's best role ever.

But then we'd have to put up with Calista Flockhart as a bridge officer. And I don't think most of us could take that.

I find myself agreeing. Damn you, Colbert!!!!

And your nightly TV show is very funny, too.

So that settles it. David E. Kelley should be running Trek.

"Risk is our business! According to the Federation Bureau of Risk taking, 75% percent of risk takers on this vessel believe that's what this starship is all about!"

Having never seen Denny Crane (or most of the other Shatner roles), I'm left to choose between what roles I have seen him in...

James T. Kirk
-or-
Bob Wilson

I was going to include Rocket Man Shatner, but I wasn't completely sure if that was an act or not.

What's everyone got against Calista Flockheart?

I don't watch any form of broadcast TV, and I've only seen her in "A Midsummer Night's Dream", so I don't know what characters she's played. I do think she's gorgeous, though, even though she's so thin (which I usually find a turn-off).

How would there have been a Denny Crane without James Kirk?

And there'd have been no James Kirk without The Shat's turns on shows like TWILIGHT ZONE. So the next time a fuzzy green Chia Pet guy is on the wing of your plane ripping into the engine compartments, thank the ugly, mascara-wearing bastard for more than 40 years of Bill's greatness before you scream and go apeshit.
