October Writing Challenge - Ghosts!

I was going to try for something fancy in this challenge, but then I figured why mess with a great concept like the Hallowe'en ghost story?

So that's your challenge - write me a ghost story.

To be more specific - a story involving the paranormal/supernatural in some way - but scary - after all, this is the Hallowe'en challenge!

So we can have Mistral's Star Trek fairies, but they need to be eating the colonists!

3,000 words.

Any questions - type 'em here.

EDIT: will also allow "apparently paranormal / supernatural stories" so the Star Trek fairies can actually be Orion smugglers if you want. Just keep it scary and, at least at first, paranormal/supernatural.

Oh and closing date will be midnight October 31st (greenwich mean time - so I'll have all the stories for my Hallowe'en :))

What about stuff like the salt vampire, the cloud that feeds on rage or Redjac? Would they count?

The Ghost of Halloween past?

or all the future alien ghosts that invade the minds of the young as they grow up into mutant tribbles with teeth because of a transporter error that mixed the dna with the rna in a psychotic blend of fantasy. The evil yoda knows no bounds from his mirror-verse. He will infest and fester like devils in the rye or lime lights so bright they burn through the skins of beings never known and always there, behind you now! don't look there. ahhhhhhh (lots of ahhh and screams muhhhmmaaaahhhhahahahahaha)

I'll have to think on this one. My temporally-displaced immortal engineer might have some trouble with this.

i take it there's no 'oooh, it's technology and not really ghosts' stories allowed?

I think you're correct. He did say the story must involve the 'paranormal/supernatural in some way.' That would seem to exclude any sort of scientific or technological explanation for the ghosts involved.

That I (she) did! I also woke up this morning and thought... Hmm... you know I should allow "apparently paranormal" stories too - mainly because I haven't a clue how to write an actual ghost story but Orion smugglers using the legend of the Star Trek fairies to keep people away, that I can write.

So - rule change:

I want paranormal / supernatural or apparently paranormal / supernatural stories.

Keep it scary though! :)

I'll amend the first post it it'll let me.

sounds good to me! Add a few more words and you've got yourself a challenge entry.

I'm working on something-and considering scrapping it to do a couple of other ideas I had-this one seems to be causing an over-abundance of ideas. LOL.

You've a few weeks - write all of them!

EDIT: sorry must start paying attention and not spamming the thread

Yes, I think so - just so long as the story does involve some belief that they are paranormal/supernatural, even if they're proved to be natural by the end.

I know Trek isn't really a universe that has much time for the supernatural, since they have the technology to prove most things otherwise, but I figure there's still room for people to believe in ghosts and things that go bump in the night.
