Looking for a new PvE MMORPG...

Warhammer Online is getting a lot of press. I don't think it's out, yet, but it's coming soon.

I haven't played enough Warhammer yet to really judge its PVE content, I'm only level 7. What there has been so far has been very serviceable, and public quests are, indeed, a lot of fun - although finding a tank and healer is still an issue, as it always is in these games.

I wouldn't recommend Age of Conan to anyone as a PVE game, and the PVP side is still broken as well. Its just too buggy and requires too giant a system to run. As far as I can tell, its tanking fast, which is a shame as before its launch I was really looking forward to it, and played quite a few levels before giving up.

Lotro is definitely the best pure PVE game I've played (except probably for WoW) Very solid, few bugs, nice classes, and the graphics and atmosphere are very well realised. Suffers from a bit of a lack of endgame content currently, although the story based "book" quests are very nice, but with an expansion due very soon, there's bound to be an emphasis on more instances and raids. Moria is, after all, a giant dungeon - its got to be worth a look. Personally I'm currently playing Warhammer, but I can easily see me switching back to lotro if I hear that Moria really gives it a kick in the right direction, which I am quite confident it might.

I think the main issues will be popping up in the Lich King IIRC. Reading the boards, a lot of hunters are taking exception to the fact that WoW is ignoring them essentially and cutting into their buffs and such.

Reading the class forums is a good way to dissuade oneself from playing any class.

Especially the Shaman ones.

BUS SHOCK.

So many Shaman got permabanned for that. Serves 'em right.

PvE would be Players vs. Enemies, correct? I know about PvP, but it's the only term I'm familiar with.

 Point taken but it seems that a lot of hunters are being ticked off about the way Blizzard is treating them.

Every class is upset about something. Hunter's are still a must have in a raid. Their position in a 5-man is like any other DPS class; interchangable.

My gripes about classes and some of the morons who play them are from a tanking perspective.

Tanks are annoying :p...

Hunters are a must but I have to wonder if Blizzard think they are too powerful?

what don't people take exception to on the message boards?

one of my favorite quotes about message boards and WoW:
The forums are as much an indicator of the players' happiness as a hospital is an indicator of public health.

in the end, if you are having fun, that is what matters.

Player vs. Environment. "Not PvP", basically.

I figured it was one of those two. :D I'm not sure if KOL would fit that category, since PvP is an option but not as common. But if anyone wants to join my clan, PM me. We have booze. ;)

I loved City Of Heroes/Villains but even that has declined as player numbers have dwindled. WoW was ok but I started to calling it World Of Walking everywhere. I am now waiting for Champions Online.

Let me echo the love for LOTRO - I have a lvl 50 hunter (*the* best class, imho), and a lvl 26 minstrel (healer class). I'll agree with the some-what lacking end-content - not a big fans of raids, my isp is too sucky for them, but Moria will no doubt help out in that area.

I love WoW. People are always complaining about their class. Find me a class that has no complainers. You can't. Hunters are fine.

I've been tempted to pick up World of Warcraft but apparently there is some issues with the class I want to use (hunter) and they keep screwing up the hunter, so I'm wary about throwing down any money to play the game if they continue to tinker and make it weaker (though I've heard also this is only for PvP which I rarely play).

I played Guild Wars but that seems to be dying (there isn't very many people on anymore. Most of the outer cities have become almost ghost towns). And NcSoft is still adjusting. I don't know how long I can wait for Guild Wars 2 to come out since they haven't had a target date nor a beta date.

So what else is out there? Age of Conan I've heard has a lot of issues. Warhammer is mainly PvP...

Regarding your comments on WoW classes... don't even worry about the complaints.

These sorts of class complaints are made by really hardcore players, like, "i raid for 5 hours each night for 4 nights a week" type hardcore, and they are usually talking about anal things that most normal players will NEVER come across.
In fact, Hunters have a reputation for being amongst the easier classes for newer WoW players to play. Managing your pets is also a pretty unique dynamic in WoW, as except maybe a Warlock you don't really "raise" a real pet in any other classes.

As far as pet classes go, Warlocks and Hunters have nothing in common. Hunters have to feed their pets and do their best to keep them happy and alive. Warlocks have to do no such thing and in fact get a buff from purposely killing their "pet"

Stone Cold is right thought. The majority of the complaints on the forums are from the truely hardcore. You won't care about some nerf to your shot rotation in the Lurker Below fight for a long as time, if ever. While other complaints are form morons who need to "learn to play"

No class is perfect and no class is completely fucked...well, maybe Shamans.
