Even Malkovich has his misfires. See The Man in the Iron Mask.
Or don't. Such an excellent cast wasted on such a mediocre (decent, but not great) movie.
My friend made me watch it at his house 9 years ago. Those are 2 precious hours of my life that I am never getting back.
I watched that scene today. Nothing offensive about it whatsoever. No exaggerated stereotypes or ridiculous behavior, no grossly inaccurate Japanese accents. One man said "konichiwa" in greeting in a normal tone of voice, which is something a real person in the same situation would do as well.
So all that was offensive about it was that they were Japanese tourists? Because it turns out that it's not all that uncommon to find bus tours with Japanese tourists.
So that was bullshit, as was your assertion that Jackie Chan plays the "magical negro" role. So what exactly was the point of this topic again? Is it your nonsensical criticism of George Clooney? Was it just to take a swipe at Spielberg and Jews, because obviously he speaks for all Jews?
Or was it just a stream of consciousness thing where you launch into a dozen pointless rants?
It could have been a bus filled with random, everyday people...but the studio/screenwriters had to "stick it to the Asians" by injecting that racial-jab into a scene in a rather mediocre movie.
Also, say hi To Sonya for all of us.
that girl must be constantly wondering why her ears are burning.
Actually, it is her eyes that are burning...
Look guys, just because of the fact that Sonia broke up with her boyfriend last month after 4-5 months of dating doesn't mean that I have a shot with her right now. The girl is 10 years younger than me, so that precludes me from doing that.
I grew up with VHS. She grew up with DVD.
I grew up with compact discs. She grew up with ipod.
I grew up with a dial up phone. She grew up with a cellphone.
I grew up with a color TV. She grew up with an HDTV.
Roger Moore was James Bond when I was 9 years old. Pierce Brosnan was James Bond when she was 9 years old.
George H.W. Bush was president when I was in high school. George W. Bush was president when she was in high school.
When she asked me what I thought of "Indiana Jones" 4 months ago, my mind was on "Raiders of the Lost Ark" and "Temple of Doom," while she was thinking of "Kingdom of the Crystal Skull."
No, she is way too young for me. I just consider her to be a friend. Just because we both lived in Chicago, are Korean American, and attend the same church does not mean that we have enough in common or related interests for me to ask her out.
I wish her the best, whatever she ends up doing, and whoever she ends up with. As for me, at age 32 I really should be dating 30-year old women rather than girls who are barely out of college...
