your "TEST" movie

When you get a new TV, or sound system for your TV, or a new DVD player, whatever, is there a particular movie you use to test your new purchase??

For me? Its Jurassic Park. I use it, mainly, to test sound...but it also is great just for visuals (and I can't wait for Jurasic pack's Blu-ray release)

I fast forward to the sequence when the cars konk out and then the Trex comes...from the waves in the glass of water, onward...great sequence to test with..

Hmmm.... interesting topic. I like!

In the SFF realm, I like to use
- "Fellowship of the Ring", specifically the scene where they are running to the bridge of Khazad'dum. From a visual and audio perspective, it works beautifully.
- "Toy Story 2" demonstrates all kinds of audio effects traveling from speaker to speaker.
- "Revenge of the Sith", for all of its faults it still uses ILM and that says everything.

Outside of SFF:
- "Gladiator', especially during the opening battle between the Romans and the Barbarians

I suppose the ones I'd want to see on the new hardware first to check it out would be:

- 2001: A Space Odyssey
- Blade Runner
- nuBSG

Right now,"Revenge of the Sith - specifically the opening battle - but I imagine that will change when I get the likes of Iron Man, The Incredible Hulk and The Dark Knight on Blu-Ray.

"Star Trek: The Motion Picture"

Same here, especially for the scene where Kirk sees the Enterprise for the 1st time in drydock. I don't care what anyone says, that is the greatest special effects scene in Movie History.

Now, if only the story had a little more action and the actors had uniforms that didn't look like pajamas...

To test speakers, the opening From Attack of the Clones. Padme's ship flying in moves around all the speakers, then the explosion.

"Star Trek: The Motion Picture"

Star Trek The Motion Picture was my test movie for years..many years. But the audio seems out-dated,even with the remaster...But that opening battle with the Klingons and V'ger was very good for testing for many years..

I am waiting for Blu-ray's SITH release, SOME DAY!!!...it will be great for visuals and it will be awesom!!! can't wait

From now on, it's probably going to be Iron Man. But we just got two HDTVs for the apartment three months ago, so we're not in the market for anything new for some time.

Helm's Deep from The Two Towers, the asteroid scene from Attack of the Clones, and the Grevious fight scene from Revenge of the Sith.

In the very unlikely event that I can ever afford a new TV, I'll probably use one of the LotR movies... my old one predates DVDs lol.

"The Paths of the Dead" from ROTK, where Aragorn confronts the King of the Dead works out as a nice speaker test. The laugh that the King gives after disappearing travels from speaker to speaker all around the room, if you have a 5.1 system
