I'm not a Voyager person. I've been watching ti a bit lately.
I was never a huge fan of Mulgrew's acting or her voice, and particularly her "hands behind her back" penguin walk. I have to say now that while I still feel as I always did, she has much more energy and spunk than other actress they had cast. I'm sure you all have seen this

but it's new to me.
You couldn't understand her. She sounded half-asleep. Her syllables blended together and she had no enthusiasm, no enunciation of words necessary to understand the often techie Trek dialogue.
What I am saying is that acting is a very difficult thing to do. Even for experienced actors. If they had cast this lady, VOY would have died a quick death, and the reputation of Trek would have been sullied.

She seemed uninterested by the role. She was certainly not the best choice for Captain Janeway. But that doesn't mean G. Bujold is a bad actress. She just didn't fit that character. And I did understand her.
