Star Trek comics on DVD

I just read for the first time the Q/Trelane story from Marvel's Star Trek: Unlimited book. It was a fun story, and it was neat to see Kirk in command of the 1701-E with Picard's crew and Picard in command of the 1701 with Kirk's crew. The resolution was a bit predictable, but still a very fun read.

I didn't realize until I saw the ToC that I already have read most of Wildstorm's Trek books, with the Voyager titles being the only exceptions.

Got my $10 refund on today after giving them a call. (pre-ordered my copy a month ago)

They rejected me the first time I emailed, but I wrote back, and whoever I was talking to said something to the effect of "I'm doing this AGAINST POLICY" and all that jazz... but I got my way. Bitching and moaning always does the trick ;)

Silly question... what's the e-mail address for contacting Amazon about this?

^^Would I get an actual human being or have to wade through endless voice menus first? If the latter, I'd rather do it by e-mail.

I don't have an email address. I went to the customer service page and kept clicking around until I found the page where I could enter my question in a form. They don't make it easy.

I found the "contact us" on the website and sent them an e-mail.

EDIT: Update: I got the refund, but only because I placed my order before Sept. 1. "As of September 1, 2008 we are no longer offering discounts if prices change on our website after you make a purchase."

I just got it this weekend. The scans are pretty good. One item left out was the X-Men / Star Trek Crossover. But considering how this caused Paramount to revoke Marvel's licensing, it isn't that surprising. :)

^^Huh? The X-Men crossover led to the license being revoked? I hadn't heard that. I thought the Marvel comics were just cancelled because they weren't selling well enough, because Marvel put out too many different titles all at once and the audience for such a huge blitz just wasn't there.

The first Trek/X-Men crossover comic was also one of the first -- if not the first -- comics out of the gate for that incarnation. Besides, if Paramount had taken issue with the comic, it seems likely that they'd have rejected it at the proposal stage, anyway.

(It's also worth noting that Pocket's Trek/X-Men novel was a big seller, opinions and judgments as to its quality notwithstanding.)

I *know* there was a discussion here about how the "Planet X" novel was a major reason why Marvel lost the rights to Star Trek - if not just poor sales of the comics. I'll see what I can find out from other sources.

You're misremembering. I was working with Marvel at the time (I edited the Marvel novels that Berkley Books published from 1994-2000), and I used to have lunch with several of the editors there all the time, among them Tim Tuohy, who oversaw the line. The X-Men crossover had nothing to do with the line being cancelled. It certainly didn't cause Paramount to cancel it, because Paramount didn't cancel it: Marvel did.

Remember, this was in the midst of Marvel's lengthy and tiresome bankruptcy mishegoss, and the higher-ups at Marvel changed on what felt like a weekly basis. When a new set of muckitymucks came in they looked at the deal between Marvel and Paramount, realized that there was no way they could make money on the deal unless the comics sold much better than they ever would, and they killed the deal.

Planet X most certainly had absolutely nothing to do with it. Like I said, I was there....

One of the first, but not the first. The first Marvel Trek comics (DS9 #1, VGR #1, and Unlimited #1) came out in November 1996, and the TOS/X-Men comic came out in December '96. The last of Marvel's Trek comics were published in July '98.

The plan, at the time, was that Star Trek/X-Men would launch the line. Then it ran into production problems; Silvestri needed other artists to pitch in, which led to it not being the first Trek comic out the gate for Marvel.

Quick off topic question: KRAD, where does your avatar come from? I know it's Rigel from Farscape, but I don't recognize that picture.
