The Hilton's true colors

I was a dork when I was there and did a typical and expected thing.

One of the Klingon characters was standing near me in Quarks and tried to unholster his weapon only to find it fixed in the holster. The Klingon turned to me, smirked and said, "Many have tried."

Glad I saved a PDF of Quark's menu before it was taken down. You would think the Hilton website would have been updated already seeing as how the new owners want the place gone as soon as possible. I wonder if they'll also get rid of the Star Trek slot machines.

I got an email from the LV Hilton yesterday (which I promptly used to remove myself from their mailing list) which featured shots of the main sign outside sans the STTE logo. I wonder if it's already down IRL or if they just photoshopped the picture.

I just got back from another trip to Vegas. The logo is still on the outside sign, which did surprise me since their attitude towards the Ent-A was such that i thought the sign would be the first to go!
I did have to call in and have a quick look. They havent done anything with the space they claim the Ent-A was in the way of. The shutters were down and all the lights were on including the remaining ships. The Ent-A was still sitting on the chairs and there was a message sign outside from Cedar Fair thanking fans for their support over the years.
None of the star trek slot machines were in Spacequest but there were 6 by the corridor to the convention center where Benihana is. I did have a good look for the others but thats all that was left.
I left a nice little complaint letter with the front desk telling Hilton owners and management exactly what i thought of them written on their letterhead. It did make me feel a little better. :(

There were only ever six Star Trek slot machines. Two very near the STTE enterance and another block of four a bit further back in the middle of the SQ casino. Oddly, they installed the block of four the day before STTE was shut down... I saw 'em doing it. I guess they knew there's be a lot of us there that last day. Opportunist bastards 'til the end.

I guess they moved 'em away from STTE to keep morose Trekkies from hanging out there.

I counted 16 Star Trek slot machines when I was in Vegas for the convention.

You're right, there were 16 Star trek slot machines - the 6 i saw that were left near Benihana, there were 2 single ones next to the monorail entrance back to back, 6 next to Spacequest bar and another 2 near the warp core thing the other end of Spacequest.

I'm old, so I plead faulty memory. Also, I never spent any time in the main casino. Also, I drank a lot those last two days. Also, I don't gamble so I wouldn't have noticed anyway. All I know for sure is there were two right near the entrance and I watched 'em install four more nearby while I was there.

At any rate, it doesn't matter now since I'll never go back to the Las Vegas Hilton again.

I was happy to waste my money in the Star Trek slot machines. The bonus rounds were fun.

I agree.
Although, I was more partial to the one with the Klingon ships then I was with the away team bonus round.
I never got to unlock other games though.

The Star Trek slot machines were the loosest slots I've ever played in vegas. I played the bonus round and I was down to the main klingon crusier (15X) and I kept on getting extra shields, it was a ferengi dream come true. I wonder if they're anywhere else in Vegas, I'd like to do something trek there when I'm there in Oct.

Anyways, I don't know if you have seen my vid that I made of the Klingon Encounter ride pieced together from various youtube clips but here's the link:

Maybe when I get more time I can somehow fine tune it, but thought the people posting in this thread would like it.

Enjoy

I will never step foot into another Hilton hotel again due to their blatent lack of respect for a franchise as storied as Star Trek. I hope whatever profit margins they had due to visitors going to the TE and then gambling into their amaturish casino will plummet.

And this is the sort of over-reaction that makes people think all ST fans are total freakazoids.

I agree..and I think Paris Hilton is still hot..I'd do her

How much of their "attitude towards the Ent-A" can be confirmed, and how much of it has been manufactured by fans who feel somehow heroic by pretending that the Hilton is some faceless, corporate evil villain that is out to get us and our beloved franchise? (As opposed to a hotel chain that was bold enough to host a really cool Star Trek theme park for a decade.)

The original comment came from a (now ex) employee from the Experience. Subjective I know, but it's not exactly chinese whispers. At least not yet. :)

The upside of an ex-employee is the access to "inside info."

The downside is the obvious potential bias.

Add to that the risk of taking an off-hand comment that one person may or may not have made and attributing it to the organization as a whole (in a relationship that spans a decade).

But then again, it's much more fun to get riled up and self-righteous, so don't let me stand in anyone's way. :techman:

Hilton Hotels and Paramount Parks originally partnered to create STTE and for that they deserve to be lauded and thanked... but the people who shut it down are not the people who opened it.

Several years ago, the Las Vegas Hilton was purchased by Resorts International, a division of Colony Capital, which pays Hilton Hotels for the right to continue using the Hilton name. It is no longer a Hilton hotel. Resorts International has been hostile toward STTE since purchasing the hotel and when the opportunity arose, upped the lease on the space by 10x in an effort to make it impossible for STTE to remain.

Further, The Paramount Parks divison of Paramount was sold off in preparation for the CBS/Paramount merger and the purchaser, Cedar Fair, got STTE along with the large amusement park properties they were actually after. Cedar Fair never knew quite what to do with STTE and merely upped ticket prices, cut back on staff and upkeep and more or less milked it for a profit for as long as it would last.

Despite this, Cedar Fair did indeed try to negotiate with Resorts International to keep the place open... with their cutbacks and higher ticket prices it was still profitabe... but Resorts International had always frowned on STTE and the crowd it attracted and made it impossible to reach a deal.

So Cedar Fair does indeed deserve some measure of derision for allowing the place to atrophy to the degree it did, and Resorts International has been flat-out hostile to STTE since they took over the LV Hilton. It's not fanboy hysteria and it's not a case of biting the hands that fed us for so long. The "good guys" to whom we owe thanks for STTE were long gone from the scene by the time the gold curtain dropped.

Regarding the hotel's hostility to the Enterprise A... it was the only thing they had any right to address as it protruded from the leased space and out into their casino, and address it they did, threatening to have it demolished despite the fact that they have no immediate plans for the space or the area around it. That seems a bit hostile to me. Cedar Fair, meanwhile, is the leaseholder for the space that was once STTE through the last day of December '08, at which point they lose control over it and anything which has not been removed from it.

And so, while I may indeed stay in a true Hilton Hotel in the future, I will most definitely not do business with the Las Vegas Hilton or any Resorts International property. They have made it quite clear to me that they do not value my custom and do not want my business.

Well put, Dale, and you beat me to it. So, yes, to all those who would still like to do Paris, go for it. She and her family had nothing to do with the closure. It was those RAT BASTARDS AT RESORTS INTERNATIONAL!!!! C@C{$UC{*R$!!!!

Or was that too freakazoid...:)

Nothing like going to the Hilton and seeing a bunch of Star Trek whackos intermixed with Barry Manilow fans...talk about salt/pepper

On Sept. 2nd, I went back to the Hilton just to check things out and got some shots of them taking down some signs and stuff. What really got me though was the number of people that had no idea that STTE was closing and arrived to purchase tickets when they saw that nice sign placed in front of the gates. I also talked to a few people after the ceremony that said they only came to the closing ceremony because they heard on the News only a few hours before they were closing and happened to be in town. I guess for those that are not uber trekkies and constantly are checking the news sites and forums, there really wasnt a whole lot of media given by the LV Hilton or Cedar Fair about the closing.

I wonder if anyone will go Clark W. Griswold on their asses, Klingon style.

Hey. If any of you are looking for any last-minute gift ideas for me, I have one. I'd like Nick L. Ribis, the Resorts International President, right here tonight. I want him brought from his happy holiday slumber over there on the Strip with all the other rich people and I want him brought right here, with a big ribbon on his head, and I want to look him straight in the eye and I want to tell him what a cheap, lying, no-good, rotten, four-flushing, low-life, snake-licking, dirt-eating, inbred, overstuffed, ignorant, blood-sucking, dog-kissing, brainless, dickless, hopeless, heartless, fat-ass, bug-eyed, stiff-legged, spotty-lipped, worm-headed sack of monkey shit he is! Hallelujah! Holy shit! Where's the Tylenol?!
