Reaching Towards The Future....

^"Murdoc, I'm gonna KNOCK ya! Gonna knock ya teeth right outta your MOUTH! If you don't stop all this crazy talk about MAPS, and ya invisible BUNNIES!"

"And I pity the FOO'--who messes with my TOPIC!"

:devil::evil::devil::evil:

You do realize that the actual topic of this thread was headed absoultely nowhere, right?:vulcan:

And?

I will say though, the futures bright, the futures orange! (I miss that old tag line with Stephen Fry saying it, better than the phone adverts we have now a days!)

He seemed pissed that we were off topic, so I was just pointing out that the topic had pretty much gone as far as it was going to go.

Speaking as someone who is decidedly not a fan of J.J.'s (don't get me started, we'll be here all week), I'm reserving opinions on any potential future until I actually see the movie. I wasn't even going to see it until they cast Karl Urban.

No, I'm not joking.

I would have to agree, I'm not sure it is, but I'm not a fan of any of Mister Abrams stuff, although I am looking foward to seeing Simon Pegg as Scotty and I can use the punn beam me up Peggy again :rommie:

Anyone who knows you, knows you aren't joking. ;)

One of those instances where I wanted to eliminate the possibility of doubt.

Saying all Trek fans are looking forward to the movie is a faulty generalization.

^ word up

I think I've seen maybe 2 maybe 3 ST movies in the theater. I'm just not a huge fan of the movies. Most of the time when I'm watching a movie I can think of a bunch of episodes I would rather be watching. On the whole my favorite episodes involve a lot of talking, the movies focus on action for one thing.

I'm personally more interested in finding out what books may be spawned from the movie that the movie itself. Face facts, what was better, the A Time To... series that bridged the gap between the last to movies or the movies themselves?

I agree with you about J.J., and I'm still undecided as whether or not to see the new flick, and I've seen every Trek movie in the theater on opening week.

Ditto, although my problem isn't with Abrams (I've liked some of his work and disliked others, so he's neither incentive nor disincentive). I'm just bored by the idea of yet another prequel, rebooting in a timeframe I don't care for with a crew I largely don't care for. One of the great things about the fiction line is that they're moving the story forward.

Fictitiously yours, Trent Roman

I will more than likely see the movie, but I agree with Trent wholeheartedly.

Except with Vanguard and Mere Anarchy and The Buried Age and Slings and Arrows and A Time to... and Terok Nor and so on and so on. Filling in gaps is another thing the prose fiction line excels at, and that's what they're doing in the movie.

Whither Trek? What direction will we go from here, at least as far as the novels are concerned?
Any ideas?

Yeah, Picard gets promoted to Admiral and takes everybody out for a beer. Sythenhol, of course. Scotty drinks til he can't see, pukes on Worf's lap and is dead ten seconds later.

HERE we go! In the words of Will Smith, "Now that's what I'm talkin' about!:techman:

Now, I apologize if my question seemed a little...odd. Basically, I'm just thinking... ya think the books will pick up on the movie, if it succeeds, and center in that era? I mean, if all goes well, it should bring a lot of new fans into our Universe.

IMHO, it would only be natural for Pocket to try and pick up on this. Y'know...try to publish more TOS, and so on.

Any ideas?
