OT: Christie Golden Part of Next Star Wars 9-Book Series

Yes but this was in the good old sensible days of the 1970s - before your time, of course!!
The '70s were "sensible"? Are you kidding me? Wasn't that the era of bell-bottom jeans, tie-dye, Watergate, Vietnam, Blaxploitation movies, Three's Company, Donny & Marie, the pardoning of Nixon, and the heyday of disco? ;)
Jealousy of not being able to join in all those things will get you nowhere, sir!
Thanks to my parents, at the age of eight I had the "pleasure" of wearing a leisure suit. That was all of the '70s that I needed to see, mein freund.

It was all the coke that made it seem sensible...

Diet with ice and Lemon please.

Oh you mean THAT coke, bit before my time I'm afriad, the era not the substance!

Hey, at the very least, blaxploitation movies generated a lot of great soul and funk music from Curtis Mayfield, Isaac Hayes, James Brown, and a whole lot more. For highlights, see the MGM Soul Cinema compilations, or Pimps, Players, and Private Eyes. And some of the movies were fun in their own right.

They say that cat Shaft is a bad mother--

Huh? There was something wrong with Donny & Marie???? I think there's nothing wrong with Donny or Marie Osmond...oh, wait...you mean the television program....yeah, that was bad...especially on DVD today.... all I can think about when I hear about the program, I remember the gag on Family Guy...

Marie: Uh, Donny?
Donny: Yeah, Marie?
Marie: Uh....don't tell Mom.

NOTE: Being really sarcastic right now. I knew what Mack was talking about.

As for on-topic discussion, I didn't mind any of Ms. Golden's Voyager fiction (the post-finale stuff). I'd be willing to see what she could do in the Star Wars universe, but I sure hope that Fate of the Jedi has a more fluent approach to story-telling. I think that the first part of Legacy of the Force was decent; Betrayal, Bloodlines, Sacrifice and Inferno were my four favorite titles. Invincible for me just downright disappointed. For a finale, it lacked the usual epic elements that Star Wars finales tend to have...I'm sorry, but the Unifying Force was downright AWESOME! (Knowing full well that Jim Luceno wrote it)

So, we'll see what happens....And if I remember, wasn't School House Rock a creation of the 1970s as well? And, the 70s also gave us Pierre Trudeau, and his wife....

I have read most of the Star Wars books (the best IMO being Zahn's work and NJO). The main problem that I have with LOTF was that it was just the Prequels part 2. Nothing new or really innovative happened. Luke has never been written as a good leader. I always thought that he would become a cross between Obi-Wan and Yoda, but they have never allowed him to be that. He always comes off as ineffectual and weak. Then in this series they made him the bad-ass Luke and then let someone else take care of the job. I was disappointed with how disjointed the story was. With only Traviss writing about the Mandos and the onthers using characters and plots that only get picked up in their books, it was just not well done editorially.

I am hoping that the next series will have learned from the last one and that all the writers will work towards being more cohesive, like the NJO was, and there were many more writers there.

It's Christie Golden, not Christine. Could a kindly mod fix the subject line, please?

She's mentioned as Christine in the announcement, which is why I wrote that. Anyhow, I fixed it.

EDITED ADD:

Wow, I guess I'm the only one who enjoyed Legacy of the Force despite its flaws. :rommie: I'll be reading this series, despite the fact that it's all hardcovers.

Nope, I'm late to the love fest again. I did like the series despite the flaws. I'm a Star Wars junkie and though I agree the novels have been a bit flat lately I will be reading on.

I dropped out of Star Wars years ago and was wondering if reading the postings here might tempt me back. But now I am even more glad that I didn`t waste my money and my time. Some of what I read sounds dreadful. No, thanks, I have more than enough to read already.

^ There is a licensing office that is a counterpart to the CBS Licensing department, though I don't know the name(s) of anyone working in that office. Lucas himself has nothing to do with the books.

I'm sure I've read somewhere (but I could be wrong) that he isn't a fan of the book line and he just uses it to get more greens!

He does, at least a little bit every now and then. From what I understand, Lucas had to approve the death of Chewbacca personally and it was Lucas that requested Anakin Solo be killed off because he was concerned that the more casual fan might get him mixed up with Anakin Skywalker. I believe he would have to be the one to approve if, say an author wanted to kill Luke just for example here but otherwise you're right.
