I hope Paramount turns its entire marketing budget over to Kevin Smith, as he is pretty much the only one generating any real hype for this movie.

    You've seen the Trek movie?

Because nothing about making a film as good as "The Dark Knight" is insuperable; I've seen hundreds.

"Invasion of the Blood Farmers," for starters.

As long as he doesn't say it's as good as "Mallrats", I think we're okay.

Nothing against The Dark Knight -- since I did generally enjoy it -- but I'm sort of hoping that Star Trek will be better than that.

Then again, as Smith implied, some huge trek fans may find Trek a better film, even if Smith's general assessment is to be believed.

Kevin Smith is obviously a comic book fan, so he will perhaps enjoy a Batman film experience more than a Star Trek film experience. I on the other hand am a bigger trek fan, so a good trek film will be more meaningful to me than a good Batman film.

Indeed. Nothing can top the Batman homages in "Mallrats."

Seriously though, he is one among many who's seen it. Of those who've seen it, among them people in whose best interests it would be to be honest, everyone has raved about it.

I dunno - I don't think there's any especial trick to that "plant the living and harvest the dead" business. Wouldn't you expect it to work out more or less that way by default?

You know, I feel good that Smith is so impressed with the movie while allowing that he's not a particularly avid "Star Trek" fan...nor is it like Smith does a lot of sucking up in order to get work.

But how does Star Trek XI compare to Batman Begins? That would be an interesting comparison since both are origin stories whereas The Dark Knight is a sequel.

Hmm, I guess I should see DK at some point.

I always procrastinate when it comes to the important things. At this rate the internet frenzy will be totally over by the time I'm ready to give my 16 page opinion on it.

    Shit, it already is.

    NEXT TIME.

    Actually, I was being facetious.

Are we supposed to be making serious posts in this forum now? Sorry... I didn't get the memo.

I've seen TDK 3 times, twice on IMAX. I've never seen a movie 3 times in a theater. TDK stayed with me longer than any other movie that I remember. I was/is one heck of a flick.

If the new ST movie it is almost as good as TDK, as Mr. Smith suggests, it's gonna be one hell of a movie.

Time will tell. It always does.

Yeah, I assume that everyone is dicking around, and that none of the posts are serious. That has gotten me into trouble a few times though. Since me acting like a doofus often blends seamlessly into the chorus.

Got to agree with this. The Dark Knight was good but it wasn't nearly that good. Now if he'd said Blade Runner I'd be very doubtful.

Well there's no way Star Trek could be as good as The Dark Knight because Heath Ledger is dead.

    Duh.
