OMFG cut outs

six of nine

Ensign
Newbie
Hey six of nine here.

well I was watching some of my DVDs last night and there was deleted parts "note italian versions" anyway while i was watching the movie clips I was kinda confused because Jecotey the captains 2nd in comand "sorry for spelling mistake if you can spell his name i will be thankfull" anyway he and the captin where dating for a short amount of time romace wise then towards the end of season 7 he was with seven of nine.

So as you can see I got a little confused, also I hate the fact that the captain went home to a man that married someone else, I know she was in the delta Quarent for some time but you know I guess thats men for ya

but really someone mind clearing this whole roamce thing the captin and her 2nd in command have at least?

I think you mean Chakotay. :)

With regards to the romance between the Captain and First Officer, I think it's something the writers toyed with in season 2, but it never really worked out, which happens in life, so for me was quite realistic.

With regards to Janeways beau "Mark"; he thought she was dead and grieved for her. Eventually over the course of 5 or so years he found a new love and married her. Then when Voyager managed to get in touch with the Alpha quadrant he must have been shocked yet relieved to find out she was alive, but unfortunately their relationship was over. Again this is life, and I think the writers handled this quite well.

you are now my new best friend online thanks so much for clearing it out for me i mean it got to a point where i thought that star trek was making its own soap opera o.O

One could argue the writer's toyed with it throughout the entire series. There are a lot of fans of the J/C pairing and C/7 was poorly executed and entirely out of the blue.

The silver lining though is that some really good fanfiction was generated as a result of the whole "Endgame" fiasco. :D

I was and am so relieved that all the writers did re. the J/C romance was play with it. It would have been...just too weird, I think. I know Star Fleet protocol says this sort of thing is OK, but there's a reason why it's verboten out here in the real world, and that's because a romantic relationship between a superior and a subordinant is just a bad, bad, bad idea on many levels. More relevant to this particular thread, it would have been a bad, bad, bad idea on many levels for ST: Voyager, too. It might have been OK if they'd let it happen right at the end, which is kind of what I expected, but that's it. Two, three or four years of a J/C romance would have been tedious beyond belief.

But the whole S/C thing was definitely poorly executed. Oh, well -- it was just a few episodes (key episodes, true, but just a few of them) so it's fairly easy to ignore!

Characters with chemistry often lose that chemistry once they "get together" so that would be the creative reason for the tease. It would have been nice if they ended the tease with some kind of resolution one way or the other at the end though.

I thought the creative reason for the tease was to keep us guessing. No? ;) And also to keep lots of options open. God forbid they might sometime have had a plot that would have been facilitated by a Janeway or Chakotay romance and neither character was available. Horrors!

But yeah -- let's face it, in real life or in a TV series, once people settle down into a relationship, it's difficult to keep it interesting except to the people in the relationship. (I've been married a fairly long time now, and while it's far better and more statisfying and even for the most part more fun than dating -- a LOT more satisfying and fun than dating -- it lacks a certain drama.) On a TV romance, you've either got to turn it into a soap opera, or you turn it into an on-again-off-again farce (i.e., Ross-and-Rachel, God forbid that that should happen on any Trek series), or you've got to have lots of misunderstandings and hijinks (i.e. every sitcom involving married people since the dawn of the Age of Television), or you've got to go the whole starting-a-family route. Or sometimes all of that. There just aren't that many options. And all of that would have been just horrible on Voyager.

I am actually fine with it going away without resolution -- it was never, at least for me, definitive enough to require a resolution. They never came even close to committing -- it was all, as you described it, a tease. They were mostly just friends, with a tiny little element of romance, and that's not a bad thing to be. And that stuff does happen in real life, too.

I understand why the writers teased the viewers, but I wish there had been a tiny bit more resolution with the J/C relationship by the end. Towards the side of it actually happening.

I agree with Cali. I was angry that they pretended like New Earth didn't happen. They never talked about it. I wanted them to get together so badly! But the thing about Endgame was there was a lot of WONDERFUL fanfiction out there and that helped me to imagine a different ending to the show. :)

Are you kidding me? That show would be great. Neelix and friends would probably include lots of hot Talaxian women...

Well Neelix did have his own "show" for the Voyager crew. :D

no offence but i think you should stick to real life women Jk
but really it would most likely be more of a cooking show in my opinion than a romantic episode maybe Jane way should have her own show how to screw up in starfleat
