Good. And I'm being generous. This one just seemed too predictable to me. More so than the usual Eureka predictably. And all the stuff that's going on ends up connecting in the end. It's like Signs, but worse. Yeah, i know that happens in almost every episode, but it just seems worse in this one.

^ I agree completely. This was the first time I've watched Eureka and been bored.

That, and I figured it out as soon as the first scientist talked about the junked prototypes.

^ Same here. I figured it was Recycling Guy right away, and the device was so obviously going to be used right from the start. Of course, this whole "out of phase" thing always annoys me. How does he run down stairs, and how do we hear his footsteps if he passes through matter? ARGH. Reminds me of that joke from "Wormhole Extreme."

Lexi is annoying me. She's not a believable character; she's a tired stereotype, and really unpleasant. I just wish they could come up with something that actually surprises me. After Stark's death, I thought they were on to something different, but we've gone right back to the standard formula.

The story about the superhero wannabe was cute, and the device malfunctioning and cutting off his finger was a little different, but that's about it. It was very dull and predictable overall.

Yeah, stories about people phasing through objects always make me ask, "If he can phase through stuff, how is he keeping himself from phasing through the floor?" But I realize that some things you just have to suspend your disbelief for. :p

I though the episode was enjoyable, but nothing special. I did feel sorry for Captain Eureka though, loosing a finger, getting stuck in a wall and then finally starting to phase on his own? Not good.

The underground city was pretty interesting. Maybe it was made so in an even of a nuclear attack the scientists would survive? Or could it be for something else?

Upon further recollection it seems that Eva does have some sort of ethical standards in her. Here's why: she couold easily have the Sheriff removed to make things easier for her since Carter's going be poking around in her business from now on.

But it could be that's also just the smart thing to do since he's the only one who'd be doing so. If she were to remove him that could raise flags elsewhere, especially since he is a very respected member of the community.

Agreed. And the thing is, this being Eureka, they could have explained that.

"Oh, the bottoms of his feet are kept in phase just enough for friction, but phase out whenever they aren't pushing forward" Or SOMETHING! I mean, that's not the best explanation, but I came up with it in the 10 secs it took me to type my first two sentences.

Lexi is annoying me. She's not a believable character; she's a tired stereotype, and really unpleasant.

Agreed again. Although, at the end of the show, when Lexi had her little breakdown about being afraid for Zoe... maybe she's changing, a bit?

But I get that she's supposed to be annoying to Carter. But annoying another character on the show, and annoying your audience are two entirely different things.

What would be great is her annoying him... without being that bad. Leave the audience thinking "Why is Carter overreacting?"

What joke?

I thought how can the even walk if he is out of phase.. anyway is a light sci fi show.

The 100th episode of Stargate SG-1 saw Jack O'Neill become the Air Force advisor to a TV show called Wormhole X-Treme. (Because shows with "X" in the title get higher ratings.)

At one point, one of the actresses comes over to the writer and director:

"I'm having a problem with scene 23. Where I'm supposed to be out of phase and my hand passes through a wall."
"Yeah. Because you're out of phase."
"Then, shouldn't I be falling through the floor?"
(loooong silence)
"We'll have to get back to you on that."

Okay episode. The actors were better than the writing...except for "getting a walk-through-walls suit at Walk-through-Walls-mart."

About Eva, her definite "No" to telling Carter what's up, coupled with her sensitivity on certain issues (like having lost her husband, right?). Does this underground area have something to do with Eva's missing hubby? I know the timing's wrong (1930s for the underground portions), but maybe something else?

I agree. This has to do with Eva's husband, but how is still the $100K question.

I'm in the minority, but I like Lexie. I don't want her to be front and center at the expense of the other characters, but she's fine. She's a nice (at times, annoying) foil for Carter. I agree they are taking her quirks too far, and she definitely shouldn't insert herself into Jack and Zoe's relationship. But it's going to be a long season, so I'm going to reserve judgment on her.

Maybe the timing's not as wrong as you think. When Martha scanned Eva in the first episode, her age came up as "Classified." It could be cryonics, some sort of youthifying device, or any number of other things.

The sister is indeed annoying, and I don't understand why all the men in town are fawning over her. She's not hideous, but she's nothing special. I mean, she's a Carradine. There are no attractive Carradines.

And yeah - more Jo (with her hair down!) would be awesome.

Thanks, I forgot that.

Her sympathy to Allison kinda points to this direction (after being pissed off at not being invited), huh?

Why isn't this episode available on scifi.com yet? I noticed a link to itunes. Are they giving up on streaming video?

According to Hulu, because of bandwidth issues, Eureka episodes are going up eight days after broadcast.

Thanks for the info. I managed to find somebody with a recording. I agree that it seemed strange how so many people were trying to date the Sheriff's sister.

People who I would be happy to see leave the show:

Zoe's friends
Lexi
Zane

I liked this ep, being generous, but it felt back to the fun Eureka formula of S1, S2 which I like (when it works well!).

I'll join the minority in welcoming Ever Carradine as Carter's sister. There's still time for her character to get fleshed out (2 more eps or so).

This episode though hit a poignant and scary level with Carter undergoing the phase-shifting to rescue the others. This being TV, he had no apparent long-term damage, which is good. I liked how the 3 plotlines managed to converge here--Star Trek's A/B plot structures have worn me out.

Huh, no mention of the Robocop homage with the security system (the first appearance of Captain Eureka)? That part had me cracking up.
