J.J. Abrams Admits to Being too Stupid to Make Star Trek XI!

Wilmer was the name of the unfortunate (and rather hotheaded, as well as ot-nay oo-tay ight-bray) character played by Elisha Cook, Jr. in The Maltese Falcon. (You can get a better look at his face in a photo found in the right-hand column on this page.) Some 26 years later, the very same Elisha Cook played a certain somewhat cantankerous attorney-at-law engaged defending a certain starship captain against a murder charge.

Obscure? Obscure?

There's nothing obscure about "The Maltese Falcon."

"Obscure" would better suit "just about every part Leonard Nimoy has played other than Mr. Spock."

And it's been such a long time since I've seen The Maltese Falcon. Any references to it were never going to get the long-term memory fired up, really.

Plus, I'd forgotten that Cogley was played by Elisha Cook. It's been a long time since I've seen that episode, as well.

He admitted to not knowing how to bring Shatner in without it being too forced, not being too stupid to make a movie.

Shatner had the chance to play Kirk again and blew it off because of ego, including unreasonable screentime demands and likely unreasonable paycheck demands. This is a surprise. It's not like he did this when offered and episode of Enterprise. Seriously, fuck him.

I don't know about that. We may roll our eyes at the conditions Shatner placed on his involvement in the movie, but it's probably not sensible to begrudge Shatner the desire to do so. He's got no duty to play Kirk.

No, he does not. But he did do a great deal of kvetching in the media in recent years about how much he'd like to play Kirk again. Oh, if only there were a way for him to play Kirk again. Seemed uncharacteristic of him at the time. Strikes me, he was trying to use the media as leverage in his negotiations. Didn't work.
