AC/DC returns!

AC/DC is returning this October with the release of their new album 'Black Ice'. It definately returns to the old Back in Black, For those about to Rock' days. http://www.acdc.com/acdc101/ Rock and Roll Train is their first new single in almost 9 years, and they sound great! Also the album will be sold exclusively to Wal-Mart stores and Sam's clubs for 11.88, I bet there'll be some great packages to be sold with this album as well. Album and T-Shirt, videos, or another AC/DC album. I think I've worn out all my AC/DC cds, so it'll be great to get some new tunes! Bring on the Thunder this October!

I love AC/DC, really looking forward to this album. Wal-Mart seems to have the corner on bringing back old bands. The Eagles double album was good, and the Journey album with the concert DVD and the greatest hits package was great (although I use the re-recorded greatest hits disc as a coaster).
I hope that they'll do something similar with AC/DC. I'd love to see a live disc in there.

Sounds like vintage AC/DC to me! I love it. I just got done creating my own greatest hits CD from my collection so this is perfect timing.

They just lost all rock cred if they are really only selling through Wal-Mart and Sam's. Ridiculous. No real music fan would ever cut out the real music stores. If this is true then I just lost a ton of respect for AC/DC. I'm ashamed of them and embarrassed for them at the same time. Remember, Wal-Mart is the same store that has for years censored their music selection. That's real rock and roll for you.

I was waiting for someone to make a comment about Walmart. All those 'real' Music stores you talk about? They're gone. Sam Goody. Tower Records. The onlyone left is FYE. It's mostly Online, and digital downloads now. Today, FYE only sells a limited amount of CDs on release day. This is one of the most anticipated albums of the decade. The band wants their album to get in as many hads as possible. They are business men after all. Stores like Target, Best Buy, KMart, and Virgin Megastore all have had exclusitivity with bands. Walmart* just offered the most money. Walmart hasn't censored music in a long time. That's what the Parental Advisory label was invented for. To get the most exposure, and sell the most CDs, Walmart* is the best way to go these days. If however, you still feel a bit 'ashamed' at buying from Walmart*, you can buy direct from the band at their site.

Sorry for the rant. It's late, and I have to go to bed! Work comes early tomorrow.

There is a Virgin Records down the street from my office, where CDs typically cost $14.99 - $18.99. The same CDs cost $9.99 - $12.99 at Walmart, Target, iTunes, etc. Do you actually think that the artists are getting the difference in price if you buy it from Virgin? Absolutely not, that profit is going to the same record store that is gouging you, the "real music fan."

I typically hate giant stores like Walmart, and I know they treat their employees like crap, but their music deals give the fans a lot more than they otherwise would have gotten, the artists get great exposure, and a decent payday out of the deal. Look at it this way, Journey hasn't had a gold record for deades, and with this new release they went gold in about 5 weeks. Yeah, part of it was because of the 2 cd set, but it's been better than their last 5 albums.

I can understand an exclusive deal for in store sales, but limiting it to ACDC.com for online sales seems completely nuts to me. Surely not being available at places like Amazon is going to hurt their bottom line.

I believe that the Wal-mart deals state that after a certain amount of time, possibly 6 months, then the album is available at other retail outlets. WallyWorld just wants in on the initial release and hype.

I have no problem with them selling the album at the WT (my favorite nicname for Wal-Mart), but when the local record companies don't get to get in on the sales from day one I do have a problem. I don't know when some of you live, but in my town we have a locally owned record store chain that sells at very competitive prices and actually has a staff that knows music. There are still independent record store that rely on the big releases to make enough money to allow them to support the smaller releases that can't be found at the WT.

And I am very disappointed that a band I thought had integrity would sell out to the WT for more money. As if they need it.

AC/DC rock. To be honest, the prospect of a tour interests me more than the album, but the new single sounds pretty good. Long may they rock on!

I haven't decided if I'm going to get the album or not (I do like the new track) but I'm definitely in for the tour if they come close to me. I saw them last time around and they put on a great show.

Way to jump to a conclusion that's in no way supported by the article you linked to.

Looks like Wal-Mart is educating its managers on its positions re: Obama. They're not following anybody into the voting booth with a gun to their head.
