Scariest ST Creatures?

People,

Sure this has been discussed before -- what hasn't on this BBS? -- but I wanted to know which of the various creatures and other threats you found really scary on all the ST shows?

Personally, the electromagnetic creature on El Adrel in Darmok I found particularly disturbing, esp. the loud static charge you'd hear when it appeared and disappeared. The way it beats on the Tamarian captain, for some reason, always bugged me.

Now, I'm sure some of you will say the scariest creature is Lwaxana Troi, but hey, to each his own!:guffaw:

Yes I considered the Borg as the scariest bunch on Star Trek. But now I think it may have been the Augments, because they looked so human but had no moral centre.

Well, back when I was 6, Klingons scared the crap out of me. Probably because we used to go to the Experience a lot. They seemed so huge and mean. And they found my fear amusing, which only made it worse!

I think now though...the Vidiians are frightening. Imagine your lungs suddenly vanishing from your chest! Or having your face stolen...errgh.

I'd say 8472 on first appearance... though as with all Trek alien villans they became less menacing the more you were exposed to them... in 8472's case eventually devolving into Boothby!

Charlie Evans.

Charlie appears to be lifted directly out of the Twilght Zone. (Remember Anthony Fremont? "Send him to ther cornfield, Anthony.")

That TZ ep always scared me as a kid.

as a kid, the Horta. it just moved so weird...freaked me out. even though the Borg have been done to death they're still scary.

I also found the Vidiians quite terrifying especially watching one of them wearing a redshirts face in the episode 'faces' eeewwww!

Can't think at the moment of any other species just now but I have to say that on first viewing, back when I was young, of TWOK the Ceti Eel thing gave me the shivers and always made wary whenever I knew Ear Wigs were around. Always imagined one getting into my ear the way the Ceti eel did.

Definitely the Ceti eels--and also those parasites that tried to take over Starfleet, especially when the guy seems to voluntarily let one enter his mouth. EWWWWWW!

I just love how Picard and Riker set their phasers to "put in the microwave for too long" in that episode.

The Ceti eels always got me too, and the pre-Voyager-nerfing Borg.

Yeah, taking people over is a REALLY great example of that.

They were even creepy in the DS9 relaunch books--the scene where the parasite takes over Jayvin Vod, for starters...and the way some of the other races reacted to them when they tried to invade DS9. My personal faves: Taran'atar literally taking a bite out of "crime," and the parasites finding out they're allergic to Cardassians. (Is it me, or was there a bit of a "The Fly" tribute in the way Macet was portrayed fighting the parasite?)

Ohhhh yeah, that was SO nasty--and very impressive effects for its time.

I love it when treads make me think and this has - for hours.

I've come to the conclusion that the Solonagen-based lifeforms from the tertiary subspace manifold are the most frightening for me.
