He's Out...He's In...He's Out...???

Quote from Trek Today...

"...In addition to the franchise, Lindelof has to deal with expectations and concerns from actors who were involved with the original Star Trek. One of them, William Shatner, was disappointed to not be included in Star Trek XI. "Mr. Shatner created Kirk, so I understand and sympathize with his feelings about what his role, or lack of a role, in our movie was," said Lindelof. "That being said, Kirk died. He fell down a cliff face. That made it incredibly challenging for us to tell the story we wanted to tell and figure out a way for William Shatner, who is now several years older than Kirk was when he died, to be in the movie. It's an incredibly ambitious movie on a technical scale. I can say with confidence that we achieved what we set out to achieve, and that's all you can ask for." ...

I know THEY are saying that Shatner is not in the movie and I don't really expect Him to be, but this paragraph, especially the sentence's underlined, taken in context with the rest of the paragraph, leave's me wondering...

Did Lindelof have a slip-of-the-lip here, or is he purposly giving US confusing information to put US off the track??

I WONDER...

As much as I'd like to believe it I think you are probably reading too much into it.

I think he's saying that they would've had to modify the story they wanted to tell too much to bring back Kirk. It's fairly consistent with things said months ago now about how if they could've thought of a way to maintain the story and use Shatner's post-GEN Kirk, they would've. It just didn't work out.

I still think they are implying that, if shatner were to be in their film that it wouldn't be as James T Kirk...

His comments imply Shanter will NOT be in the movie far moreso than they imply he will. Therefore I'll stick with occam's razor and presume the obvious.

Kirk's back in? The hell you say. Maybe they could give him back his old looks through "Beowolf"-style SFX. That's how you get get him back!

He's Out...He's In...He's Out???
"You put your Shatner in,
Your Shatner out,
In, Out. In, Out.
You shake him all about.
You do the Hokey Cokey and you turn around.
That's what its all about....

[Altogether now!]

Ohhhhhhhhhhhh Hokey Cokey Cokey
Ohhhhhhhhhhhh Hokey Cokey Cokey
Ohhhhhhhhhhhh Hokey Cokey Cokey

That's what its all about..."

What? Don't look at me like that?

There will be a dream sequence where Chris Pine's Kirk imagines himself as an old man (Shatner's Kirk) eating some bagels with the guy who played Jango Fett, for some reason.

They should put a photo of him in the backround just so they can say he's in the movie and end all this fuss.

I think they're saying that not only is he not in the movie but they did actually not put him in the movie out of respect for canon.

Just my take.

BTW: I fully am looking forward to the Jango Fett scene.

I think the "older" is a clue.
I think Shatner will have a cameo as George Kirk's father.
