A Miles O'Brien?

James Wright

Commodore
Commodore
While he served as transporter chief aboard the Enterprise-D did Miles O'brien go on any away missions or did he serve his entire assignment aboard ship?(This does not include shore leave!)
Thanks,

JDW

If O'Brien was on the away mission, who would beam the away team back? :vulcan:

But we did see him planetside in the Powerplay, but that was to set up a transporter enhancer, which as transporter chief, would be his specialty, so it was justified.

Is that really the only time we see O'brien on an away mission for all of TNG?

Unless one counts his trip to the USS Phoenix to talk Captain Maxwell out of starting another war with the Cardassians, then yes, it was.

Wow. Color me amazed. I'm going to stump my friends with this one! :)

It would be impossible for O'Brien to work in 4 personnel transporter rooms at the same time!

JDW

Obviously, but why send the people who work in those rooms off on away missions in the first place?

Anyway, I was making a rather lame, meta-esque joke.

Tough room. :shifty:

His specialty. Yeah, the guy went through hours of training to take these things down, set them up in a triangle pattern and turn them on.

;)

Aren't the people who operate the transprters engineers?
What do transporter techs do when they aren't working in the transporter rooms?
Thanks,

JDW

Well I'm sure that's the excuse he used, but we all know the only reason he wanted to beam down was he was bored out of his tit. ;)

Yes but he had to know exactly WHAT KIND of triangle to use given the situation.

JDW: It is amazing that we saw O'Brien off the ship in TNG just two times. BTW, I noticed the rank on your avatar uniform sleeve changes as you move up in rank. It's hard for me to tell, but is the uniform color supposed to be green or blue? My laptop display sometimes confuses those two colors. Or maybe I'm just color-blind! -- RR

What's amazing is that a guy who started off as a no-name background extra wound up getting lines, then a last name, then a first name, then his own subplots and a wife and child, then being spun off as one of the main characters in a new show...all in four years. O'Brien and Colm Meaney had nothing to complain about.

Yeah, I loved how much Miles was developed over the course of the franchise.
