“You can’t go back Hank.” Frank said softly. “You’d be putting our universe at risk of some reprisal by Q. I can not allow that.”

The tension level began to rise.

“What do you mean you can not allow? I am not some child Frank.” Hank said with anger in his voice.

“How are you going to get back there; Hank?” Frank said pointedly. “You need the Server, and I am willing to bet that Mr. Saxon here isn’t going to let you go back either.”

Saxon nodded his head. “I have to go with Frank on this one.” Saxon said. “There are too many ways for this to go wrong, and not enough to gain if you do go over there and correct what ever you think you’d be helping. You need to let it go Hank, for the sake of us all.”

As the three men continued their discussion they were unaware that they were being observed; by Q.

Suddenly there was a flash, and Q stood before them.

“Why did I know somehow that you would show up?” Frank asked Q.

“Oh be quiet.” Q said to Frank. Then he shifted his attention to Hank. “Why is it you humans always have to worry about such silly things as honor or reputation?”

“I would have thought all that time with Picard and Janeway you would have figured it out by now.” Saxon said to Q.

With out a retort, Q snapped his fingers and suddenly a very young girl, maybe 16 years old at best, appeared. Her name was Rebecca Johnson.

“Okay Q,” Hank said to Q as the girl flashed into view. “What’s going on?”

“Hello,” the girl said sheepishly.

“Her name is Rebecca,” Q said with a fatherly look on his face. “And since I don’t have all day to go into temporal mechanics, let us just say that she will be going over to my Universe for a while.”

Hank walked over to the girl. “Is he abducting you?” Hank asked.

“Oh, come on, I am really surprised you think that way of me!” Q protested.

“Did you tell her about Admanda?” Saxon asked.

“Who is Admanda?” Rebecca said with a confused look on her face.

“Forget that for now,” Frank said, and then he looked to Q, “you must have some reason for taking her Q. What is it?”

“The Q,” Q announced, “have decided to destroy our Server. You were right, we found one, just like yours, in our Universe at that whole in the ground in California.”

“You mean Arizona.” Saxon corrected Q.

“Oh, whatever,” Q said, “anyway, we have decided that it is far too powerful, even for us, to control. So, we destroyed it. We had to Nova around two hundred stars to do it, but we did it.”

“If you’re asking us to destroy ours; the answer is no!” Saxon said.

“First, let me say,” Q said to Saxon, “if I wanted too I could, and there would be nothing you could do to stop me.”

“Okay,” Hank cut in, “so what’s the catch.”

“That’s why I always liked you Hank,” Q said, “you were always to the point.”

“Well, gee,” Hank said, “throw me a party.”

“Anyway,” Q said, “the Q have concentrated our power and we are quite content that no one from your side, with the help of the Server, will be able to penetrate the barrier we have set up between our reality and this one.”

“What does the girl have to do with this?” Frank asked. “Do her parents know you are taking her?”

Rebecca shook her head. “No, they don’t.” She said in a soft voice. “But they would have wanted it this way.” She fought back the urge to cry.

“Q,” Saxon said, “we’re not going to let you take this girl if something is going on.”

Q snapped her fingers and the girl was gone.

Hank grabbed Q by the collar of his Starfleet uniform. “What did you do with her?!!! WHAT DID YOU DO!?” Hank yelled as he prepared to punch Q.

With his hands in the air Q spoke quickly. “Listen,” Q said, “Just listen for me for a minute.” Hank let go of Q’s collar. Q straightened up his shirt then continued. “Gee,” Q said as he checked his neck for injury, “don’t you people treat Gods with respect over herer?”

“You are no God.” Hank said with anger in his voice.

“The girl,” Q told them, “died earlier today.”

“How?” Frank asked. (CLICK HERE TO LINK TO SPECIAL STORY THAT WAS PART OF THE AUGUST CHALLENGE)

After hearing the story Frank, Saxon and Hank agreed with Q’s reasons.

“So, as you can see,” Q said, “she’s dead in this universe. But over there, she can at least be alive.”

“Alright,” Frank said, “why even come here and tell us this? You could have taken her and we never would have known.”

Q nodded. “You’re right, I could have.” Q said. “But since we in the Q are going to rid our universe of its Server, we still require someone from your universe to live in our universe to assure our universe’s survival.” He then looked to Hank. “We want you to come back.”

Hank laughed. “That’s exactly what I want.” Hank said.

Q nodded. “It all makes sense doesn’t it?” He said with a smile.

Frank stepped in. “But what about the murder charge he faces over there.” Frank asked Q. Then he looked back to Hank. “Are you sure you want to go back there?”

“Look,” Q said, “I will do everything in my power to make sure you come out of it innocent and, a free man.”

Hank nodded. “Okay,” Hank said, “I agree.”

“Hank,” Saxon said, “If what Q is saying is true, you might not ever get to come back.”

Hank nodded. “I know. I was prepared for that possibility two years ago.” Hank said. “I have nothing for me here.”

“Well,” Q said, “I hope there isn’t going to be any long and drawn out goodbye. We have to go before the barrier becomes too much stronger so that even I can’t cross it.”

Hank shook hands with Saxon and Frank. They said their goodbyes and in an instant…they were gone.

LAS VEGAS
HILTON HOTEL
STAR TREK CONVENTION

John De Lancie stood in the green room waiting for his chance to go on stage at the Las Vegas Star Trek Event. The chanting of the crowd could be heard from beyond the door.

“You?” Jonathan Frakes asked De Lancie. “Nervous?”

De Lancie smiled. “No, but I like to get my self up for these things. I always seem to do a little better when I am anxious.”

“Me too,” William Shatner said.

“So, Bill,” Jonathan Frakes asked, “What was it like being up there, on the real Enterprise, with Stephen Hawking?”

“It…was…quite interesting to be, up there…on that ship..with…one..of..the most intelligent men, if not the most intelligent being in the universe!” Shatner said with a wide grin.

Suddenly there was a flash and Q was standing there, toe to toe, with John De Lancie.

“What the?” De Lancie said in utter shock.

“Hmmm,” Q said, “I guess there is some resemblance.”

“Who are you?” De Lancie asked.

Q just shook his head. “You’re just not from the bright side of the applecart.” Q said to De Lancie, and in flash…Q was Gone.

Star Fleet Investigations Office

Chakotay, Larima and Cogley stared at the holographic image of Harry Zimmerman. They were all stunned by the incredibly tale Harry had just told them. How the power elite in Starfleet had been taken over by parasites the NCC-1701 D had encountered years earlier. He told them how they were about to spring their intent to take over the federation. The doctor had found all of this out when his emitter accidentally intercepted a coded signal from the home planet of the parasites. It was a signal that was intended for Starfleet command, and more specifically the office of Mr. Devon, the head of Section-31.

A deal had been struck between Section-31 and the parasites to allow the parasites to take over the military wing of Starfleet in exchange for advanced technology the Federation could use to finally destroy the Borg. But Section-31 planned to double-cross the parasites eventually. And with most of the Admiralty infected, and later killed, by the exposure of the plan, Section-31 would promote Captains and other high ranking officers that were loyal to Section-31. In essence, Section-31 would use the parasites to sweep away the Admiralty for a new one staffed with those loyal to Section-31. When Section-31 found out, they sent an operative, Omar Jival, to Bajor to find out the extent of Harry’s knowledge of the information, and to kill anyone he might have told.

Section-31 also, realizing there was a signal path they could exploit that led directly into Harry’s programming, and cause him to kill and murder anyone. But, Omar Jival was a double agent. No only did he work for Section-31, he also worked for the Starfleet Investigation unit. Once Omar found out the true intent of Section-31 they had the doctor kill him. Thus setting forth a chain of events that, somehow, became entangled with the Q and humans (Narrenson/Hank Morton) from another reality.

“How in the hell are we going to prove something as crazy as that?” Chakotay asked.

Suddenly there was a flash; Q, Hank Morton and Rebecca Johnson stood there.

“Perhaps I can help.” Q said with a broad smile.

I...don't know what to say-but I thought the convention thing was pretty clever. Is Runner wrapping?(I'm behind)
