Titan reading order?

If I wanted to get into the Titan series, what is the accepted reading order and how does it fit into the TNG-R timeline?

Thanks!

The order and chronology placement is:
Taking Wing - takes place at roughly the same time as Death in Winter, immediately after Nemesis
The Red King - follows directly on from Taking Wing
Orion's Hounds - takes place before Resistance
Sword of Damocles - between Before Dishonor and Greater Than the Sum
Over a Torrent Sea (February 2009) - post-Destiny

Actually pretty much all of Death in Winter (except the flashbacks) falls between Chapters 1 & 2 of Taking Wing. And the final scene of Nemesis takes place between Ch. 5 & 6 of TW.

The Red King - follows directly on from Taking Wing
Orion's Hounds - takes place before Resistance
Sword of Damocles - between Before Dishonor and Greater Than the Sum
Over a Torrent Sea (February 2009) - post-Destiny

Except that the TTN books don't really "fit into" the TNG-R timeline, since there's no story overlap between Taking Wing and Destiny. So while they do take place in the relative positions you specified (except with SoD being only slightly after BD and maybe even overlapping it), that fact has no impact on their storylines (except that OaTS does deal with some of the aftermath of Destiny).

Do Titan and the Big E meet up in Destiny or do they follow their own plots within the overarching story?

From the back cover blurbs it sounds like they are seperate for at least the first two books.
Edit: Yeah, and it would be interesting to see how Riker & Picard work together as equals.

For what it's worth I've been alternating them and found it to work quite well so far, even if the dates don't match up exactly:

Taking Wing
Resistance
The Red King
Q and A
Orion's Hounds

Things just seemed to match up with Q and A referencing that Titan was off on it's first proper exploratory mission, and Titan being off in another part of the galaxy during Resistance so hence they're not involved... Technically I'm probably entirely wrong but I felt they flowed quite well this way.

Once I'm done with Hounds I'll do Before Dishonour, Sword of Damocles and Greater Than The Sum in that order.

I must admit, once I had put my new book case together, I was wondering where I should put Titan, either before or after the TNGR novels, I placed them between Articles of the Federation and Resistance as I try to place the books in chronological order.

Eh... I'd rather not, because that would be the "expected" thing to do. Besides, by the time of Destiny Book 1, it will have been roughly 14 months into Titan's mission of exploration. If they have continued outward (and not in an an elliptical arc as the Defiant did in the Mission Gamma series), then it could take weeks (maybe a couple of months?) of travel to get back to Federation space. Unless there's some sort of rift-thingy that magically pops up. :vulcan:

But who am I kidding? This is D-Mack who is writing this series. It's guaranteed to filled with WIN.

Uh, no pressure or anything... :rommie:

Don't forget that there is an EARLY Titan story in Tales from the Captain's Table which was written by myself and Mike. It predates TAKING WING by a short while, and details Riker and Troi's improbably complex honeymoon.

why's no-one said the simple answer?

the order they were published in...

I was going to say that but decided not to when I remembered some of the reactions I got when I pointed out the best reading order for Fearful Symmetry was very likely the order they were labeled in, you know, part one, then part two.

I'm sure there's someone out there who thinks the whole thing makes more sense if you read the first half of book 4, book 3 then the last 5 chapeters of book 2 then book 1 then the first 2 paragraphs on page 343 of book 4 then the rest of book 2 then the rest of book 4. Some people just like to take the road less traveled, even if it's not a road.

That was one weird story, man, what were you guys smoking?

And forgive me for asking, but where is the "announcement" which was coming a few days after Shore Leave? Have I missed it somewhere?

Thanks, y'all. I was particularly curious if there were any books in other series that directly fit into titan as well (e.g., the captain's table one).

Is there a site that lists the reading orders and books included in all the series? I ask because I am also interested in what's going on with voyager and enterprise, which I haven't kept up with, but I don't want to start another thread.

Depends on what you mean by "reading order."

If you are thinking chronologically as events happened in the Star Trek Universe, the timeline in Voyages of the Imagination listed the books and episodes as they would play out over time.

The two links in my sig are my own peresonal attempt to continue a chronological list.

yeah, announcements that there is going to be an Announcement always make me nervous.

I don't think I said "Announcement." I think I said "Statement," due to people asking why Mike is writing the next book solo.
And Mike and I will make that statement when the time works properly.
