SHATNERVERSE CANNON???

Here we go again...Nerdy fans, like you, expecting someone, like me, to come up with detailed answers to something I read years ago.
Yeah, boy, how rude and nerdy of people to ask you to back up a claim you make as evidence to support your position.

Your exact line was: "Since SHATNER's books outsell ALL THE OTHER books?" And you know this because you recall reading it somewhere years ago, probably on the Internet, that most reliable of sources. Can you see why some might be skeptical?

I'm not picking on you, I'm just doing my bit to point out that wild claims like this backed up by insubstantial evidence is exactly why the Internet is such an unreliable source....

Now..follow along. Shatner goes on every talk show promoting his books when they come out. He is on Leno, he is on Letterman, he is on Regis, he is on Conan, when his new books come out. Then he does news papers and Time Magazine articles, radios spots, Stern, Coast To Coast, I even heard him on NFL SIRIUS sattlelite Radio (which everyone should get)...
Yeah, but that's only because he's William Shatner. I doubt it really has nothing to do with the books themselves.

Absolutely. Shatner's been starring in a hit TV show (Boston Legal) for five years and a successful ad campaign (for Priceline) for twice that long. It's a cinch he's far, far better known for those among the general public than he is for writing Trek novels (since most people don't read much anyway). He's used those things, and his reputation as the star (not author) of the original ST, to build himself into a one-man multimedia franchise. At this point, the thing he's most famous for is being William Shatner. The books are just one facet of that one-man franchise -- a much, much smaller facet today than they were a decade ago.

I agree.. last thing we need are some bozo blowhards quelling the natural questions a new fan is going to have...

"bozo blowhards"?

Way to go there, man. You come here, asking people to take you seriously, and you call fellow posters "bozo blowhards"?

Then you go off half-cocked making assertions about sales that you can't back up with anything more than the I-read-it-somewhere defense?

Dude, seriously, not the best way to get your position heard. And definitely not the best way to be taken seriously.

New fans are always welcome. Some posters might expect that someone with enough Internet savvy to get onto a BBS like this one would know to check for a FAQ before they ask a question, but that's never a given. Yes, it would be good if we remembered that, but that's never a given, either.

Did RobertScorpio just call me a...?

Oy, vey... It's just as I feared.

The "canon" thread gets personal...once...again....

I remember one such thread on SimonSays.com. No matter how many times Mack told the bloggers that books --are --not --CANON, practically no one would listen, and people actually called Mack a HYPOCRITE!!!

I swear! And someone actually made a reference to... ah, you get the idea....

What is it about this subject that gets people all steamed, anyway?

^ Relax, dude.

(Takes deep, clensing breaths.... Does some "plexing".... Ah, what da heck--:brickwall::brickwall::brickwall:

...Okay. I am very relaxed right now. PHEW!!!)

As is also true with your namesake, everything ain't always about you. :)

Yeah. We're both aware o' that, sir--thanks, anyway....

Still...it's so much fun, these ego-rants. I'm sure y'all understand.;)

Taking a look at the state of Creation, I'd say that's one of his rare accurate statements.

Fictitiously yours, Trent Roman
