The "Would you please do..." Thread

friedebarth

Lieutenant Commander
Red Shirt
This thread is for people who don't have illustrator and/or aren't very talented in art to ask whether someone could bare some of their rare spare time (nice Assonance) to do some little stuff for them.

Please don't post requests like "Oh I want deckplans for a 50-deck Sovereign class vessel. That is WAY beyond what people can and will do for somebody else's benefit. What you can ask for are small things like "a bronze combadge from about 2450" or "a dedication plaque with following details: [details]", maybe even "uniforms looking like that and that", but not enormous works like deckplans or schematics.

Then it is important to be kind to the artists. No, seriously. If everyone in this thread goes "That looks shit." or "WTF? I said BROWN not RED" then I bet that pretty soon we won't have any artists on the entire Trek BBS. If there's something wrong with one of their works - let it be! Don't forget, they're giving away their free time without earning a cent, so rather take the image as it is and then, when you use it, write something like "The second uniform on the left is supposed to be brown, not red." or "Please excuse that squiggley line."

Okay, and then, last thing, please properly credit the Artists. For example - I am not an artist, but this is just an example - "(c) made by friedebarth aka Frederic Bayer" and link to the post on Trek BBS. Maybe some people then go "oh wow I have to tell that guy that what he does is amazing and would like to see more" and click onto the link. Maybe they go on to viewing the public profile and mailing to the artist, telling them what good job they've done.

Right-eo, first one up is me: If anyone has time and feels like making a golden dedication plaque, here's what I would like to have:

Remember the Starfleet logo (ie combadge) which Riker wears while he is on the future Enterprise (which is a hologram created by Romulans which are holograms created by a human boy which is a hologram created by an alien boy)? I mean the one with the traditional symbol and then three lines below? And that's the symbol I'd like to have.
Then, below, it says:
"U.S.S. Enterprise
Efficacy-class, Starfleet Registry NCC-1701-G
Utopia Planitia Fleet Yards, Mars
Eighth starship to bear the name
Captain Abraham Lloyd Jones
"To glorious success we reach"
Command | Intelligence
Adm. Frederic Bayer | Adm. Rick Sternbach
Adm. Gene Roddenberry | Adm. Mike Okuda
Adm. Memory Gamma | Adm. Paramount Pictures
Adm. Ursula Michel | Adm. Brannon Braga
Adm. Andrea Bayer | Adm. Dan Curry
Adm. Sibylla Schloemer | Adm. Trek BBS
Adm. Bernhard Roerich | Adm. [Artist's Name]"
At [Artist's Name] please insert your name :)

I'd be really grateful if someone would take an existing model of a Saladin class destroyer--I assume there must be one--and give it markings for the USS Pompey, NCC-506. This is the ship I'm currently playing in Star Fleet Battles.

Oh, good. So we're combining all of those threads that annoy artists into one easy-to-find (and ignore) thread. How helpful. :)

You mean something like this?

If anyone of artistic talent is so inclined I 'd love to see the aquatic shuttle Zissou, NCC-8899/A1 assigned to USS Stephen W. Hawking (NCC-8899). Time period: circa 2308 (about 14 years after Generations, 56 years before the beggining of TNG).

For no particular reason...

I think showing some starships with battle damage would be very interesting. You guys do some wonderful work with beauty shots but I'm curious about what you can do 'weathering' or aging the ships - or just outright damage.

Your impression of TWOK or TUC?

I wouldn't mind seeing a drawing of any of the Enterprises (NCC-1701 through NCC-1701-E) in the style of the ready room artwork from the Enterprise series. I've tried manipulating existing images with Photoshop to get a similar feel but my Photoshop skills are pretty limited.

Well, this might be a little complicated, but I'd like to see Pike's 'cage' era bridge updated with 'modern' detailing. For instance, replace the black panels above each station with the smoked plexy glass panels used in ST:V onward, complete w/real video monitors behind them. And the floor should have diamond plate and/or Johnsonite rubber roundle carpet (think ST:TMP). This and other details such as console control surfaces and such, would make for a really Kewel art project IMHO!

I'd like to see these various actors photoshopped on to Trek uniforms from all eras:

Arnold Schwartzenegger
The Rock
Sylvester Stallone
Bruce Lee
Pee Wee Herman
Bruce Boxleitener(sp?)
Michelle Yeough
Jakie Chan
Jet Li
Sonny Chiba
Adam Sandler
Sean Connery

And please no wierd facial expressions like the one with Rodney Dangerfield or President Bush.

If I have the time, I may give that a shot - I'm currently working on an adaptation of my free Poser TOS bridge to a "Pike-era" spec, but I'm making some slight mods to it to bypass what I see as budgetary shortcuts - it's not 100% canon, but I think it fits the 'intent' of its designers and its context a little better:

"TAS" Pike-era bridge WIP

^That sounds great Ptrope! If anyone can do it'd be you, look forward to seeing what you come up with as always, and thanks!

It's The Klingon Captain, They're Hailing Us.....

Hey if anyone with 3D skills would have a go at this early era fighter I would be eternally grateful, and will name my first puppy after you.

Okay, but I want dibs on all future puppies and a free cup of hot chocolate if I texture it (clever use on the back of the plane of the circle and box shapes from the bottom of the original Enterprise's secondary hull , by the way.;)):

D*mn, Gep! That is not only very faithful to the original design, but FAST!!! If "impressed" were a pattern, then color me "plaid"!

Sincerely,

Bill

Thanks. I didn't have anything else to do this evening, and I felt like building something anyway. I think it took about 5 or 6 hours, so it didn't feel that fast.
