Water Polo

Would Jonathan be happy or disappointed? The U.S. men took the silver in Beijing. I noted this part: "...Not bad for a program that gets little national attention because the sport is so geographically confined to California..."

Water polo
(down the page)...In the Americans' last chance for a gold medal in Beijing, the U.S. men's water polo team came up just short, losing 14-10 to a Hungarian team that became the first country to win three straight gold medals in the sport since Britain in 1920...cont.

Rick Berman would be! Archer liked water polo because Berman's son played.

^ ^ Oh, is that so? I never heard that; interesting.

My husband told me there's a sports complex in L.A. with two big statues on either side of the entrance; and when they wanted to get someone for the sculptor's models, they chose a water polo player. Apparently, the sport gives an athlete an overall excellent physique.

Water polo was airing in the LV Hilton on the day Bakula was speaking lol
I wish I could have been there; I fooled around all these years and never made it to the Experience.

That's the L.A. Coliseum, which was the track and field venue for the Olympics. The model for the male statue was water polo player Terry Schroeder. (The female statue was modeled after a long jumper, Jennifer Innes.)

I watched some of the water polo during these last Olympics. Now I know where Jonathan got his gorgeous upper-body physique...

Indeed; the salient point! I regret he never got his onboard pool, so we'd have some nice screen caps.

Interesting info about Terry Schroeder; thanks. I heard about the statue some time ago, back when the polo eps first aired. It says here that he was ...Named Head Coach of (USA Olympic) Men's Team on June 18th, 2007. Statue at the entrance to the Coliseum of Terry commemorating the 1984 Olympics. Inducted into the USA Water Polo Hall of fame in 1998...

I know the character Archer took a lot of ribbing for his obsession with water polo, but after watching one match, I definitely have an appreciation for the sport. Much more impressive, imo, than football or baseball.
