Somebody on OG said the 2012 opening ceremony should be given to Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond and James May on a budget of £1000 each! I'd vote for that!

Or David Tennant and lots of flying Daleks.

David Tennant HAS to carry the Torch. I'm boycotting the games if he doesn't. :p

They should have Daleks at every venue to exterminate any judge or coach who cheats, or any athlete who shows bad sportsmanship!

Jeremy Clarkson should be banned by court order from having anything to do with the 2012 games. Can't stand the man.

Opening Ceremony, Top Gear-style. :guffaw: I think that would be fantastic. "Ambitious, but rubbish."

Genius. Maybe the TrekBBS should be in charge of it!

Indeed. It's my favorite kind of basketball game. Neck and neck all the way up, and then the U.S. just takes it downtown. :D

^ The English always rank it by the number of gold medals. I think that is the way IOC rank it as well. Even in the past games the US media has ranked the countries by the number of gold. This time they just bended that tradition a bit. ;)

Well, just going by "feeling", I'd say that these Olympics were more successful for China than for the USA without a doubt. Imo, it would be really to tough to argue otherwise, regardless of that medal count, even if you disregard the fact that a gold medal is worth a lot more than silver/bronze.

Yep, I can see it now:

[IMG] [IMG] [IMG] YOU HAVE BEEN CAUGHT CHEAT-ING...

    EX-TER-MIN-ATE, EX-TER-MIN-ATE, EX-TER-MIN-ATE!

And then along comes the Doctor ([IMG]) to explain to the surviving judges that cheaters never prosper in the long run... :guffaw:

I was (surprisingly) rather impressed. They had ten minutes and I thought they used it really well. I'm a big fan of the umbrella, newspaper, bowler hat, red bus stuff so long as it isn't entirely overused.

I think the best way to compare nations is to awards 3 points for a gold, 2 points for a silver and 1 point for a bronze. If that is done the final scores are

    China 223
    USA 220
    Russia 139
    Great Britain 98
    Australia 89
    Germany 83
    France 70
    Korea 67
    Italy 52
    Japan 49

I missed the Redeem Team win the gold. I figured they'd win by 20 so I skipped it. Damn...missed a good one.
