Skins on BBCA--Great Show!

Barbados Slim

This just started last Sunday on BBC America. With it being a TV-MA cable show about teens written by 22-year-olds and cast with teens, it makes "edgy" American teen shows like Gossip Girl and The O.C. look downright vanilla. The sex and talk about sex and drugs and hot-for-teacher stuff doesn't play for the sake of being controversial like that old pervy movie "Kids" but it serves the plot well.

First thoughts:

- As a straight male, I'm comfortable enough to say that the kid from About A Boy grew up to be good looking.

- Cassie, the spaced out girl with an eating disorder is easily my favorite character and the actress that plays her is pretty good.

- It's fairly funny.

Anyone else watching it?

I could give my peace on it, but Stewart Lee sums it up best-

"The horrible little rat faced son. I just really want the dad to get that kid and punch his face in"

I have to say, on first look I agreed with him, but I actually gave it a shot past the first episodes, and I loved it.

Cassie and Sid are my favourite characters. Channel 4 have commissioned a 3rd series, but with an almost complete change of cast. Effie (Tony's little sister) is going to be the lead. The creators say that it's about kids at 6 form/collage age, and that's all they want to concentrate on. The old cast may show up from time to time on guest spots, but they don't want them to take any focus.
